Wesley (Brazilian right back)

If we have to endure Rico, Nunes or Akanji at RB much next season then we ain't winning the league. Endless more goals conceded vs pretty much anyone at the back post with little Bernie legs trying to double up to help out to no avail!
Whether or not we win the league will not depend on who plays rightback.

It will depend on how well and quickly we play and try to break teams down.. And whether we sre able to return to an effective press.

As for individual players, it would matter more how well Reijnders fits in the middle. How much Cherki develops. If Haaland and Foden can get back to peak form from 2 years ago.. If Savio and Doku can take the next step, and how soon Rodri is able to get back to near ballon dor levels.

Those are the factors that would determine whether we win or not.

Yes more than likely but at the top top the finest margins make all the difference . . .

Defensively was impressed his touch ain’t great attacking wise not great either! If he was £15m maybe be worth it

Don't agree with this. Look at how many goals Nunes conceded last season with his brain farts. And how many goals we conceded cos Rico Lewis lost his man or was unaware who was around him. I think it's vital we sign a proven right back tbh.

Nonsense we have had seasons that have gone to goal difference or a point, every position is important. I mean you say Haaland is important but we managed to win the league without even playing a striker.

Yep! We've had an awesome start to the window. Plenty of time and funds to complete our business and we are in dire, dire need of a RB. Another attacker and I'd be over the moon, but after the RB I guess the focus should be on trimming the squad down.

Both fewer than the times Gvardiol had brain parts last season yet I'm guessing you're not suggesting we replace him?

We won a league title with Delph as a left back and again with zinchenko as a left back. Nunes is a better player and better equipped to play and prosper as a right back for us than either of those were as left backs.

Pep has always had positions where he's sacrificed specialists in an area for versatile cover, it's what allows us to cope best with injuries throughout the season He's done it with strikers, with wingers, with left back his entire city career and now it's looking like it will be right back. Nunes, Lewis, akanji, Stones and khusanov can all slot in at right back whilst offering options elsewhere too.

Nunes will be our starting right back this season and by the end of it, it won't even be questionable to his harshest critics.

How many? And how many did he create? Don't guess. Do the analysis. Then compare it to say Walker or Gvardiol.

Again, i think Nunes was overall good last season. And i expect improvements this season as a RB. I expect him to be more confident and more decisive on the ball.

Funny enough, i think his improvements should come in the things people already assume he is good at (.e. attacking.) I am less worried about him defensively. At least not in the individual sense. He is strong, determined, quick and tough in the tackle.

His tackling towards the end of the season was better than what i saw from most fullbacks. And his speed and athleticism were a net plus. Where he needed improvement was in the number of negative passing and being unsure whether to attack or keep playing safe 'pass back' football.

So many moan constantly about the goals he gave up (all 3 of them) but say very little about the number of goals he individually prevented, or those he helped score or create.

Regardless of what people think, he is a net positive to the team. We probably would have an extra FA Cup trophy had Akanji stayed injured longer and Pep made the right choice.

Nunes is a net plus to City football.

Aye, we've won multiple titles with makeshift left backs, so there's no reason we can't do it with a makeshift right back. But equally, it would be massively annoying to finally get the left back slot sown up, only to have exactly the same problem on the right instead.

Sorry to drift off-topic but Nunes gets way too much flak on here. Now, I admit it’s not saying a great deal but he was arguably one of our best 5 players last season.

The market for full-backs is poor and I just don’t see us signing someone like Livramento this summer.

Wesley looks like a decent prospect but he’d be a player for the future, not right now.

I really like us to get Livramento, but while I’ve seen very little of Wesley I’m not sure he was any better than Nunes especially the last 10 games or so and Nunes was doing it in the PL. If we can’t get Livramento not sure where we go ,if anywhere.

Out of interest, which three were those?
The one that really stings for everyone is the the Man United game... As we lost that game and his bad pass caused their equalizer.
The other 2 are funny enough against Bournemouth. We won both games by the way, so he really didn't cost us points. But that didn't stop folks from dinging him points.

That Gvardiol has cost us more goals and as many points makes no difference. That Walker gave up more goals and consistently played worse at RB makes no difference.

Like i said, i get it, folks want a new RB. If we can find a great one or a young one with fantastic potential, have at it.

But for my money Nunes and all his flaws is plenty good and an upgrade on anyone we had last year. Especially later on when ge became a defensive plus player.

The problem with the mistakes against that lot and then Bournemouth away in the Cup was that he seemed to slightly panic after the initial mistake and then compound it with a further mistake. I don’t think he covered himself in glory against PSG or Club Brugge either, and we also have to acknowledge that Guardiola shied away from playing him against Real Madrid and Liverpool, amongst others.
That said, I agree that he is probably worth persisting with this season. One thing I would like to see is Nunes and Ait-Nouri starting against the Wolves in the opening fixture. This protecting players from home fan abuse (Sterling/Grealish/Nunes) reeks of timidity to me, and it’s time we put an end to it.
