Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder is believed to be headed to California where he will decide on his future and if he will join either Manchester United, or neighbours City.

Both clubs have been heavily linked with the World Cup runner-up, and each club can offer advantages over the other; but Sneijder could yet remain in Italy.

The Daily Mirror understands that the former Real Madrid man has flown to California to meet his model wife Yolanthe as she is currently working on the American west coast, and there they will discuss whether a move to England would be desirable.

Reportedly, Sneijder has told both clubs that they would have to offer wages of over £200,000 a week in order to capture him, a price that is more realistic for City, even if they are trying to cut back on their wage bill.

United showed they were prepared to pay extra for the higher calibre of player when Wayne Rooney was offered a £250,000 a week contract towards the end of last year, proving that if they really want the Dutchman, they will offer whatever is necessary.

United are believed to be the favourites to complete any potential deal thanks to footballing reasons with Sneijder apparently preferring to play in a more historically successful club. However City hope to trump that in other areas.

One of those areas is the relationship between Sneijder and Nigel de Jong, as the two players have represented the Netherlands many times together, came up through the Ajax academy at the same time and are said to be very good friends - something City will hope to use to their advantage.

Sneijder’s agent, Soren Lerby, reportedly met United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in the club’s team hotel prior to their match at West Ham in April, but neither United nor City have officially opened discussions with the player’s club, Inter.

i know theres no quotes but it would be a brilliant signing if so.

More than likely he'll go to the rags, but saying that, looking further into the future, his best bet would be with us rather than joining that shower of shite!

Yeah, this story is being reprinted all over the place (judging by the NewsNow City feed). If we offered equal terms, then I've no doubt he'd join the rags but will they pay over 200k/week for him? This is a man who very clearly likes money and a glamour lifestyle so I think it may be a case of the highest bidder with him. Great player but like Bale another with dodgy knees who could easily miss half a season but I suppose when a player is this good its a risk worth taking.

I don't think he has enough years in him to consider joining us the good choice. At the moment if he's picking a straight choice to see out the next 3 years he'll almost certainly go to the rags. I think we hold an advantage with younger players where we can show them the vision of the club. Sneijder won't be interested in visions, he'll be interested in the here and now, and unfortunately he has either FA Cup winners, or League winners + CL finalists. It's not going to be a toughie for him is it.

cant say I rate him that high. Defo wouldn't pay 200,000 a week for him. He's lazy and appears to get disinterested if things are going badly.
Much rather buy somebody younger with potential like Pastore.

but will they be league winners next year+cl finalists i would say a good chance of league but cant see champ league then again we have as much chance as they have if not more, so for sneijder it isnt as clear cut that utd would be nailed on imo...

You can't put him there in your system. Sneijder is very particular about the role he plays in the team. He's a dead ball specialist and works best directly behind the strikers running the show from the middle, so he'd be where you've put Silva. Pushing Silva out wide isn't a spectacular idea either as I feel he's done enough to prove to the world that he's every bit as gifted as Xavi and Iniesta in terms of technical and creative ability (was really impressed with him against the USA). Playing either of them wide is a complete waste in my opinion and they're both too good to be backup.

am I the only one who thinks this guy is way overrated?

strong season at Inter and good world cup, but 200k a week? get a grip

Manu needs someone in the middle of their team. We have Silva, so they better just bid their brains out (to use that Harry phrase). We might be just linked to make sure they play alot.
