West Brom Post Match Thread

I'm fucked if I know what point your trying to make.
The majority view in this forum is that Pelle is a clueless clown. IMHO during his tenure he has done better than Mou, Wenger and VDG. Therefore they should be considered clueless clowns too. That is obviously absurd. Hopefully you can draw your own conclusions on the narrow-minded groupthink going on in this forum.

Due to a commitment to my daughters, I couldn't attend the game or watch the match live. I saw some tweets at around sixty mins and then at the end of the game and post match so had expectations of far worse performance than the one I witnessed when watching a recording of the game. Obviously it was hardly a wonderful performance but it was a deserved win.

Poor mistake by Joe on their goal but typical of our season; especially with the unwanted involvement of the ref in setting up their counterattack.

Really enjoyed Sergio and Samir's performances - tough to pick one over the other for MotM but I'd go with Nasri because that was his first start after 5 months out so to hit that level was very impressive. Kolarov did well going forward.

Bony's selection ahead of Nacho was frustrating but most of his touches on the ball were OK although he was largely peripheral.

Centre backs will need to up their game for Tuesday.

Wenger is a good comparison apart from the fact that he was very very good for a period rather than quite good for one season. But he still built an attacking team on the defensive foundations laid by his predecessor & the more the defence evolved, the less effective his team became until the 100% Wenger version of proven failures we see now. People used to think it was down to lack of spending but it's not. Pellegrini would be our Wenger but without the young players or the top 4.

The assessment of Pellegrini is a two-part assessment. There's what he's done over the three years. Not bad, not bad at all. There's what he's done specifically as regards this season. Should definitely have done better, given that he was able to get in two top class young players and a very useful midfielder into the bargain. Part of it, let us concede, has been injury problems, but some stubborn, and even disastrous selection choices have compounded that. In fact, there's a third part — assessment of yesterday. And yes, purely yesterday, I'll say it : clueless clown. You can perhaps — perhaps — make out a case for Bony being on the bench (personally, I wouldn't). Selecting him in the starting eleven is, at this point, either clueless (I hope so, for Pellegrini) or criminal (which is worse). Also, failing to take off Sergio immediately after the second goal, when we're supposed to be saving him for Tuesday (and when there was a fine option on the bench in the form of Kelechi). Yes. Clueless. Or criminal.

Thought we played some good football. Our strongest available team would have Nasri & DeBruyne in it right now imo. If Nasri keeps that up, Pep might keep him.

Notice that when DeBruyne & Yaya came on, the attacking inspiration improved & the huge hole appeared in midfield which even West Brom were able to spring attacks through (albeit there was a smaller hole beforehand). This should be a warning for Tuesday.

Feel sorry for Bony. He has no role in the team. One decent diagonal ball in 60 mins. Got in an ok header. At Swansea he would get 20 attempted passes like that & a few would result in chances.

Either use him properly or drop him permanently. The current situation is ridiculous.

Spot on. Eventually we agree on something :)
