West Brom Vs City Post Match Thread

i just dont see it with navas, maybe it is just me...great runner but needs to make better passes in the final 3rd

I agree - He did some good things last night, but for me he hits the first man far too often. Of course it's difficult to find one attacker in the middle of 3/4 defenders but he should at least be putting it into space for Bony/ Aguero to attack.

Also, didn't we score from one against Villa at our place last season? Although, thinking about it, that may not have been "direct".

Yeah, I think that was a flick on and then scored. There was a couple of them at the back end of the season.

There's definitely room for improvement with his final ball but we also need near post runners to give him better options. Centre forward should be making near post runs, the opposite wide player going back stick with the attacking mid staying central looking for the pull back.

True, I agree, to an extent anyway. The fact is though, he knows Bony isn't going to dart to the near post (not when he's not 100% fit anyway), he has to look up and see Sterling isn't (or wasn't) breaking his back to get in at the far post and tailor his cross/ pass/ stop and wait for runners accordingly, as he did for Yaya's first goal. There's no value in continually hitting the first or second man just for the sake of getting the ball in the box. If the support isn't there, which is fully understandable given his pace, he needs to think differently, or try to beat the man down the line like Silva did 2/3 times. Why can't we just have two Silva's?!?!

Silva from another planet. Toure sublime.Fullbacks were very good. Navas and Bony played well - Bony holds the ball up for others to receive his pass.

I am glad I am not the one to call the decisions on subs.
When Bony (who had a decent cameo for 70 minutes) was coming off I was expecting Itchy to come on. – but some no.10

came on. I now realise that Aguero will start against Chavski next week and needed some game time. When I saw Demi(who was unflappable) warming up I expected VK or Mangler to be subbed. I was wondering whether Denayer would be introduced but in hindsight Pellers got it right – as Chavski should expect City to have our strongest squad playing next week.
Thought Sagna had a very good game along with Kolorov.
I would like to see the same team start next week with Aguero to come on after 60 mins. – I suppose it will be dependant on the state of play and the score at the time.
Wow can’t wait for next Sunday with a possible 53,000 crowd. – can’t see it being 55,000 as it is a Sunday in August – and some 2-3,000 tickets will have to be ‘moved ‘ in the 3 days after the “Test” match on Wednesday evening.

I think those tickets are in high demand though

Far too many needless free-kicks and set-pieces conceded, mainly Fernandino.

Still far too slow in the build up, we won't get the best of Sterling one little bit if we are asking him to tuck inside and let Kolarov do the final yards. Raheem is going to make a huge impact but perhaps showed his tender years, and passed the responsibility a little too willingly.

I couldn't really appreciate how a formation change left us any less exposed to the counter attack and a run on our midfield, regardless of an increased application from Yaya?

Better teams than West Brom will certainly have that composure and quality to make a quick and incisive pass out of the back, which will then have our midfield struggling to fall back in.

There were far too many occasions, especially in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, where Silva, majestic as he was, didn't think it was his responsibility to go with the guy running off the back of him and suddenly felt he could stop running and charge those behind him with the responsibility.

Thought both of our full-back were excellent, and although Vinny looked improved, he still loves that shitty long aimless pass.

Navas definitely played his part, although it's clear where KDB can make a huge improvement.

A switched-on performance full of decent commitment, and greater enhanced by an opposition that gifted us the park to display our keep-ball expertise.

Definitely positives and our improved fitness levels will only see us get better.
