West Ham 2018/19

I still don't know how we lost only 1-0.
We were awful second leg
Yes but you said Pellegrini was "clueless when it came to defensive organisation"
Let me take you back to the first leg.the 0-0 draw. One of the top 2 sides in world football were reduced to virtually no shots on goal....a defensive master class by kompany and otamendi against a very dangerous attacking team.you cant be clueless defensively and get to a champions league semi final, shut out Real Madrid for 90 mins and then only lose to a solitary lucky goal away from home .Its easy to forget what Manuel did for Manchester City football club, cos we ve got Pep now,but its not right to call him clueless. What would you call Pep after we shipped goals against red scouse in last years champions league meetings......clueless?

Guardiola needs to adjust too when it comes to the CL. Play that ridiculously high line against pacy, skillful attackers and get ripped apart again. Happened at Bayern too. And Pellegrini underachieved at City, when looking at performances overall during 3 year period.

The guy could not even motivate a team for CL semi final 2nd leg with the tie at 0-0. 1-0 flattered us

An identified weakness of his already from his Villareal era. Which can lead to low work rate, lack of consistency etc -Pelegrini's teams usually fail to fulfil their potential. Manuel is a good guy, a noble, decent man, he takes professionalism for granted. Which in most cases is not the correct way to deal with a dressing room. People such Javier Irureta, Christian Gourcuff (Yoann's father) and others (all very good managers sharing similar attractive attacking visions by the way -hardly a coincidence, but I won't enter that discussion now) faced similar problems throughout their carreers, unwilling to change: It's a personality thing...

Another thing with Pelegrini is his prefixed ideas, not very flexible in the tactical area. I have always respected him, and I truly hope he has success as a West Ham manager. But at the moment he faces very serious issues: The lack of concentration, tactical discipline, confidence etc are more than obvious in his team's game. I wish him luck.

I haven't fact checked this before posting so please correct if necessary. Under Mancini we had the best defence in the league each full season that he was with us. Under Pellegrini the defence gradually got worse each season, and it seemed to me that organising a defence was clearly not Pellegrini's strong point (whilst offensively he was clearly good). Given that West Ham had a poor defence last year I had concerns that he was not necessarily the man to resolve this issue for them. I hadn't obviously expected them to be quite as poor overall as they appear to have been so far.

More down to the defenders and Yaya getting older/slower and Vinny constantly being injured than MP imo. When we played Dinho and Nando in the CL run we were superb defensively.

I liked a lot about Pellegrini but he was well and truly found out In the second year.
The only good thing that will come from his time at wetsham is those horrible bastards that own the club will hate the fact that they will have to dig deep to pay him off.
