The difference
I'm a big fan of xG stats, but the numbers today are a bit misleading. They got 0.55 for Lingard's mis-hit that Antonio tapped in, and 0.95 for the tap in. They really shouldn't include both as it makes no sense to 'expect' 1.5 goals from one play. They also got about 0.5 for Antonio's 'header' after 18 minutes that Ederson blocked almost before he headed it, so a more realistic xG for this game would be about 0.8 - 1.0. We still got slightly less, but only marginally.Very happy with that but definitely got away with one and WH unfortunate to not got something out of it.
Stats wise we had 10 shots with 3 on target and WH 9 shots with 3 on target.
This doesn't tell the full story - underlying xG according to Infogol (might be adjusted) was City 0.83- 2.03 West Ham. It ends a run of 34 games since Leeds away when we have "won" on xG.
On OPTA big chances we lost 1-4. Again, it's the first game we have lost on big chances since Leeds. In isolation this means sweet fa but it messes with my stats based ocd:
In the 1st 3 league games of the season we were wide open and conceded 10 Big Chances.
In the following 22 league games before today we conceded just 10 Big Chances. This is seriously insane and better than anything in 17/18 & 18/19.
So, to concede 4 Big Chances in 1 game today is disturbing for us nerds :)
We never win at home , and we never win away we lost last week and we lost today we don't give a hoot because we've got great faith in the city P R department when the media constantly shit on usas big of a win than Massive floodlights papillons at maine road
Let's not leave our Merseyside cousins out of the celebrations - they set their own record last week - first time they have lost 4 home games on the trot since 1927 or something. (If they were even around then).Record after record after record.
He’s the greatest!
Told you all he'd shine for them. The hell rags loaned lingard
Classy post - your guys were impressive today and on another day could have got a point. Hope you keep it up and get top 4. And would you mind spanking the Scum in a couple of weeks.Well done guys. That's some team you have there, and you were deserving winners. A truly class outfit, from top to bottom...pep especially. Many thanks for accepting me onto your forum, I appreciate it.
As for my lot...well, we did everything I expected and more. I said before the game started that Manchester City away is the hardest game a football team can face, (along with 'take a good look at that ball from kick off lads...you won't be seeing much more of it today') but we acquitted ourselves well, stuck to our task and gave a decent performance.
I'm confident that we can finish in the top half now, maybe even push for seventh, but I refuse to get carried away with talk of top four just yet (at least until it's mathematically impossible for us to finish outside of it!!!). Pragmatic? Perhaps...but more likely scarred by previous failures! As the song goes...fortunes always hiding!
Congrats again, and I look forward to next season's encounters.
Stay safe folks, and COYI!
