West Ham (H) Post Match Thread

Not blowing smoke up your arse but West Ham looked like one of the best teams we have faced this season. Maybe our playing some rusty players aided that perception but overall they seemed like a well organised team with some effective players. Even big Jessy looked half decent. Not sure why West Ham's owners are messing Moyes about - he has done a good job there and deserves a decent contract.
No reason why West Ham can not finish at least top 5 and the goal should be top 4 - most of the "big" teams are pretty awful this year including United.

A lot of managers happy to be on 6 month deals right now, clubs likewise, because the future is unclear with the after affects of the pandemic. Everyone values flexibility.

Well done to you lot today! After a tough midweek game to play early on the Saturday is a bit harsh, but it shows how much quality you have in your whole squad! Your bench was ridiculous!

I thought we (hammers) put in a good show and think we've come a long way from the usual 5 goals you put past us.

Thought the game was played in good spirit and was always competitive but your quality showed through! I'm just happy we stayed in the game!!

I think it's fair to say you lot will rightfully take the title this year, you are head and shoulders above the rest! .....and thank god the bin dippers won't be winning it again!!

As for us, I think top 4 is still a dream too far for now, but who knows for the future, Moyes has definitely changed things and made us alot harder to beat!! Top 8 is realistic for us and I think most hammers would be happy with that!!

Well done on the 20 games! That's just mental! Enjoy the rest of the season!

Easily our toughest fixture of the 20. Most city fans will be rooting for you for that 4th place. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Seems like when Gundogan and Kevin play, Gundogan has to play a little deeper to let Kevin be more "explosive" (as Pep calls it) a little higher up. Especially so when Zinchenko tucks in next to Rodri.

But in the other dynamic with Gundogan and Bernardo, Gundogan can play higher because now the dynamic is shifted on the right side with Bernardo deeper with Cancelo tucking in next to Rodri.

I think the second one is slightly stronger either because of those players forms and/or playing together a little longer, or simply because their qualities suit the dynamic more.

And of course we could see a variation with Kevin left and Bernardo right which I don't think we've seen yet, its interesting to think about these combinations and how they can develop, strengths, weaknesses etc.

Hard fought win.
West Ham are a decent team.
Lingard impressed me, I always thought he was shit, maybe it was just the club he used to play for.
Exactly what I was saying too the lads lingard was their best player and he’s been shite for two seasons

Well played Blues.

You can just score out of nothing at times, thought Mahrez was a constant threat and our young lad couldn’t handle him.

other than that, we restricted you to little. We played as well as we possibly could, everyone put in a shift and we could have nicked a point at the death.

Not disappointed with that performance at all.
Played really well the hammers probably deserved a point but I am so glad you never got it hope you make top four though good luck

Hardest game we've played for a while, Moyes has got them playing like Everton from a few yrs back when they were our Nemesis.
Declan Rice was immense imo, would love him in this team as a replacement for Fern when he finally retires or moves on.
Having him or Rodri to call upon would set us up for years to come in DM.

Very happy with that but definitely got away with one and WH unfortunate to not got something out of it.

Stats wise we had 10 shots with 3 on target and WH 9 shots with 3 on target.

This doesn't tell the full story - underlying xG according to Infogol (might be adjusted) was City 0.83- 2.03 West Ham. It ends a run of 34 games since Leeds away when we have "won" on xG.

On OPTA big chances we lost 1-4. Again, it's the first game we have lost on big chances since Leeds. In isolation this means sweet fa but it messes with my stats based ocd:

In the 1st 3 league games of the season we were wide open and conceded 10 Big Chances.

In the following 22 league games before today we conceded just 10 Big Chances. This is seriously insane and better than anything in 17/18 & 18/19.

So, to concede 4 Big Chances in 1 game today is disturbing for us nerds :)
I'm a big fan of xG stats, but the numbers today are a bit misleading. They got 0.55 for Lingard's mis-hit that Antonio tapped in, and 0.95 for the tap in. They really shouldn't include both as it makes no sense to 'expect' 1.5 goals from one play. They also got about 0.5 for Antonio's 'header' after 18 minutes that Ederson blocked almost before he headed it, so a more realistic xG for this game would be about 0.8 - 1.0. We still got slightly less, but only marginally.

One thing I've seen now is that against Everton and West Ham we've conceded goals from a player lingering right on the far post, as close to the goal line as you could get. Antonio's goal had an xG of 0.94 and Richarlison's an xG of 0.95.

Maybe possibly unfortunate that the ball got to both players on both occasions, but nonetheless it's something for the staff at City to hopefully take notice of.

as big of a win than Massive floodlights papillons at maine road
We never win at home , and we never win away we lost last week and we lost today we don't give a hoot because we've got great faith in the city P R department when the media constantly shit on us

Well done guys. That's some team you have there, and you were deserving winners. A truly class outfit, from top to bottom...pep especially. Many thanks for accepting me onto your forum, I appreciate it.

As for my lot...well, we did everything I expected and more. I said before the game started that Manchester City away is the hardest game a football team can face, (along with 'take a good look at that ball from kick off lads...you won't be seeing much more of it today') but we acquitted ourselves well, stuck to our task and gave a decent performance.

I'm confident that we can finish in the top half now, maybe even push for seventh, but I refuse to get carried away with talk of top four just yet (at least until it's mathematically impossible for us to finish outside of it!!!). Pragmatic? Perhaps...but more likely scarred by previous failures! As the song goes...fortunes always hiding!

Congrats again, and I look forward to next season's encounters.

Stay safe folks, and COYI!
Classy post - your guys were impressive today and on another day could have got a point. Hope you keep it up and get top 4. And would you mind spanking the Scum in a couple of weeks.
