West Ham (H) Post Match Thread

Also well done Pep today.

Great manager that he is.

One criticism of him,is he does occasionally leave it late making substitutes.

Not today,he saw it wasn't working and acted accordingly.

No disrespect to west Ham they are having a great season, and i hope they do well,as they are a decent Club.

They only had a sniff in this game because of our need for squad rotation given our exploits in Hungary. And challenging on so many fronts.

BT were very complimentary to West Ham but I thought they missed a real opportunity to have a go at City. You could see City's 2nd goal coming because WHU were happy to defend a 1-1. This is the problem with Moyes. He's a spoiler rather than a progressive coach.
And that's the way he was with Everton. Very good coach but if he gets a killer instinct, to take risks , theyll get that top 4

Not had time to read the whole thread, so I don't know if this has already been posted.
Following the win today, we now have 62 points. This means we are now mathematically unable to be relegated, as Fulham, third bottom, even if they win all their remaining games, can only reach 61!
Happy days!!
As for the match, we won.
;-)
I think that was a long time ago mate. Think about it. Not only the bottom 3 count. Can all teams finish with more than 61 points? Dont think so.

We were there for the taking today. West Ham weren't good enough to capitalise on it.
Wow........really ?

I felt like we started the game handicapped because we needed to rotate our best players.

But still had enough to beat these.

We finished the game with Sterling,Bernado on the Bench.

phew thats a big relief...

Really thought I had put the kybosh on us today.
Unthinkingly put on a City shirt this morning. This usually does not bode well on match days.

I smiled when I read Oliver Holt attempting to wax lyrical in his opening paragraph in the Daily Fail report

"Defeats are like distant spectres for Manchester City now. Even draws are half-forgotten impostors. They are trespassers banished long ago, unwelcome interlopers who fled elsewhere and have never come back.

West Ham offered reminders of what resistance feels like but they were vanquished in the end. For Pep Guardiola’s side, anything other than victory is another country visited long ago."

Very happy with that but definitely got away with one and WH unfortunate to not got something out of it.

Stats wise we had 10 shots with 3 on target and WH 9 shots with 3 on target.

This doesn't tell the full story - underlying xG according to Infogol (might be adjusted) was City 0.83- 2.03 West Ham. It ends a run of 34 games since Leeds away when we have "won" on xG.

On OPTA big chances we lost 1-4. Again, it's the first game we have lost on big chances since Leeds. In isolation this means sweet fa but it messes with my stats based ocd:

In the 1st 3 league games of the season we were wide open and conceded 10 Big Chances.

In the following 22 league games before today we conceded just 10 Big Chances. This is seriously insane and better than anything in 17/18 & 18/19.

So, to concede 4 Big Chances in 1 game today is disturbing for us nerds :)

We have made some Stellar signings over the last few years.

This Guy though really was what we needed, the right Man,at the right time.

His impact is right up there for me.

He turned our defense from porous, to virtually impregnable.

If you are not scoring like you used to,then it is important you dont concede many either.

If fate sees us lift the Title come what May,even at this stage he will be my player of the season for his impact on our defense.Stones will run a close second.

Had Andy ('Unlucky' to absolutely anything the opposition try, that doesn't come off) Townsend on my DAZN stream. He's beyond desperate for us to falter. He's almost in pain bless him. Needs putting down to spare him the pain.
I had that stream, complete silence when the second went in. The wife thought it had gone wide. Did Townsend say ”we” when referring to the Hammers?

Mixed bag from Kev today but he was still star man on whoscored.com ratings: he still had a positive effect on the game for City overall.
That KDB pass for our first goal was sublime.

Great cross,great finish.

I think sometimes KDB tries too hard, and can get frustrated, and annoyed with himself.Have caught him ranting at himself occasionally on camera. He is a winner

Don't think we will see the best of Torres till next season. It is exactly the same as it was with Sane, Bernado, Rodri and Cancelo. They all took 12 months to settle in and become comfortable in Pep's system.
