West Ham (H) - Post-Match Thread

Alot of talk about Declan Rice performance today, He done well to a certain extent breaking up play and having a good engine on him getting around, Jury is still out on him big time though about his ability on the ball always looking for an easy option or giving it away plus West Ham parked a bus today too so he had plenty of bodies around him.
Personally I don't think he's anywhere near the likes of Rodri.
City play the easy ball 90% of the time it's why we are so good at retaining possession. Peps tactics and positional play mean that generally our players have more easy balls than most.

RIce is three years younger than Rodri and plays alongside inferior players getting far less posession.
It is not a comparison I would like to make , Rodri himself came in for plenty of criticism on here last season.
Personally I though RIce was excellent yesterday , Rodri was my man of the match . How they actually compare I really don't know the context within which I have seen them varies so much.

A sensible post!

I agree with all you say apart from one thing. I would say we don't play the easy ball anything like as much as you say - we play high risk football with passes through small gaps between opposing players. We tend to only play the easy ball in wide areas when keeping possession to pull the opposition towards us and out of formation - usually followed by a 60 yard pass switch to the opposite flank where the opposition are thin on numbers. We play high risk football because the rewards are higher if we do it right - passes a foot or two away from opponents. No other Prem team can do it.

I think at times the decisions some players make must drive Pep crazy. Marhez and Jesus shooting when a simple ball across the 6 yard box would have been tap ins. Making the game much easier for us. I know it was difficult in the conditions yesterday but thus is happening every game. I think a lot of the plays who do not play regularly, think they have to score to impress Pep, they don't, they just have to make the best decisions to enable a goal to be scored.
Does anyone else think this?

Loved Bernie’s rugby style restart after the Hammer’s goal, probably only the second time he “misplaced a pass” all afternoon. Rodders was MOM for me and unfortunately Mahrez and Raz were vying for Not MOM.

thats rubbish to be honest.
Rice is a totally different level to what I’ve witnessed in my 30 + years of watching West Ham. Best player in my lifetime.

At a £100m he might be a touch overvalued but thet really depends on whether anyone is prepared to pay that.

I'd certainly be happy to have him as a Fernandinho replacement / Rodri back-up, he would do well in our team.

You never saw Brooking live? Rolls-Royce of a player. He was never properly recognised for what he was because he played in one of England's more mediocre teams (edit: I mean the national team, of course) and, without wishing to be disrespectful, he devoted his career to a club that just wasn't winning trophies. Which, by the way, is entirely to his credit.
Hurst, Peters, Moore got properly recognised (for the obvious reason). Along with Brady, Brooking was one of the great midfielders of the 70s. But it's mainly Hammers supporters who know it.
Worked in Becontree in the 70s. Surrounded by Hammers. A good bunch. Used to give me a terrible ribbing on Mondays every time City had got a bad result. I gave back as good as I got.
