I've been following the Bluemoon forum for years and love reading it everyday but never posted. I'm hoping for a few tips and advise as I'm coming up to Manchester tomorrow from Abingdon with my wife to celebrate my 59th birthday and 50 years of following City. I've got tickets for the game against West ham and really looking forward to the next 2 days and would appreciate any tips to where to go and where to avoid. We are staying in Portland street so anywhere near there would be great and on the day of the game I'd love to show my wife what it's like in a City pub before the game. Living near Oxford and going through 2 marriages, 4 kids and a mortgage I've only managed to get to Maine Rd a few times and visit the Etihad against Arsenal when it first opened and a game against Aris with my young boy also a few games in Birmingham and London when City played so looking forward to a great game Wednesday night. Thanks.

I'll keep saying it, Fernandinho was injured at this exact stage last season and we were fine.

Only difference this year is that we are embroiled in an intense title race with Liverpool whereas we were well clear last season. Also, 2 of the games he missed were against Arsenal away and Chelsea at home, both of whom were so so passive last season

Exactly! If that's the ONLY difference we should be fine.

Beautiful weather in Manchester at the moment.

A good starting point is St Peters Square. This is in front of Central Library and now home to two Metrolink lines. If you stand in the middle you see Central Library and the wonderful Town Hall, although the old building is only visible from some parts of the square.

At one corner of the square there's the old Midland Hotel. Behind the Midland is GMEX the old train station, and nearby the the classical concert venues. You can see the skyscrapers from here. Nearby (Quay St) is the old Free Trade Hall which is now a Hotel. You also see the top of Oxford Rd. If you head down there you pass the Palace Theatre, and Refuge Building which is worth seeing. Go much beyond that and you head to the University campus.

Deansgate is a short walk from St Peters Sq and on there is the Rylands Building an old building that doubles as a Library. Next door to the Library is Spinningfields a new Commercial building. At the Old Trafford end of Deansgate there's Beetham Tower and new skyscrapers going up, and at the other end there's Manchester Cathedral and Shambles Square. Maybe Victoria Train Station and Urbis worth a look at. Modern and old building juxtaposed bit like Rylands Library and Spinningfields.

I would go to St Peters Square. Decide where you want to eat and then pick 4-5 places you want to visit. There are some restaurants around St Peters Square. China Town is relatively close by too. On it, and also at top of Oxford Street which is off St Peters Square.

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

I have a feeling Watford will do us a favour at anfield on Wednesday, so we need to make sure we take care of all 3 points V West Ham whoever is available to play.

Seeing as you are staying on Portland at, Grey Horse and Circle bar are good watering holes mate. I suppose you are wanting a meal? If so and you like Chinese I recommend Happy Seasons on Faulkner st. Tram to stadium from St Peters square or Piccadilly. When going back to town I find a bus from Ashton new rd is quicker than queueing up for a tram. Enjoy your stay: )

We might need a bit of luck in this. It is so soon after the Cup final i'm sure the players are knackered.

Ederson
Danilo stones ota Zinchenko
Kdb gundy Silva
