West Ham - Post match thread

It's one of those performances where you could literally wax lyrical about virtually everyone!!!
The front 3 will rightly get all the plaudits, it's frightening what they are capable of and it's so so so exciting for all of us!

Now we've seen a glimpse of that front 3 and not forgetting Aguero of coarse we've also seen silva Debruyne and Yaya now being deployed differently!
I've thought even with the signing of gundogen that we were perhaps still short in CM department. But yaya silva and Debruyne for me are mirroring the Yaya xavi and iniesta of the golden Barcelona midfield! Add Fernandinho and gundogen the midfield doesn't worry me at all anymore!
Silva Debruyne and Yaya almost seem like new signings to me what with there new deeper roles!

Not exactly. The combination of attributes is way different, that Barca midfield was more ballanced (even if you replace Yaya with Dinho or Gundogan). It was amazing to watch Kevin's and David's work-rate from day 1, their defensive effort (a clearly new element in their game, we hadn't experienced anything like that before, it only existed in Pep's mind).

Still, it's by far the most ambitious, the most daring concept in modern football, Guardiola himself never tried anything like that in Barcelona / Bayern. Yaya, Dinho, Gundogan, are not typical DMs, so basically you have a team architecture with 6, I repeat SIX, attacking minded players: 3 Fs, 2 AMs and 1 holding midfielder who could easily operate as an attacking midfielder himself (not the Busquets or Alonso type DM)! I said it in my first post here, personally I was shocked the moment I realised what the guy was after...

You'll have to go back, I mean back to football prehistory, with those ridiculous 1-2-7 attacking formations (lol) to witness anything ... close to that. And if you start thinking about the defensive prerequisites for this to work, well ... you should! Which is exactly what a guy being paid ridiculously high wages should have done in the summer. Had he done his job, we would be discussing objectives on a completely different basis tonight, trust me. Obviously, some serious decisions will be made in the following transfer window, just that people like David, Dinho and Yaya will be 1 year older. And I feel they deserve much much much more from this season...

Anyway, I still hope for what currently seems impossible. For there's no team in the league that can match the quality of our attacking game. City under Guardiola are an experience to watch. Not to mention, City under Guardiola will be mentioned in books discussing football tactics, football theory in general. They'll have a chapter of their own...

Absolutely this, on our day we are best attacking team in the league. When pep gets it right we will be a force to be reckoned with and we should all be extremely excited by that prospect!

Pat Nevin was on 5 Live around 7pm, was listening to the usual sycophantic shite talked by most pundits about how the Rags are on a fantastic run and will easily make top four. Had to smile after our performance (and theirs) then I just read the following on the BBC website from Nevin.

" Analysis - 'City will be found out'
Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live
"I think if Manchester City play the team they did tonight away from home against other team (sic), they will be found out.
"They are far too open. Yaya Toure, as the holding midfielder, won't get around enough against decent teams.
"West Ham are the perfect team for Manchester City. They played 4-4-2 and were destroyed in midfield.
"Tactically it was a mess."

You could not make it up, fuck all about the Rags failing to win, unable to praise City at all even after that performance, prize cock!!
I think you are failing to see that the scum were valiantly thwarted by the footballing giants of, er, hull

Played really good football at times tonight, that front 3 is going to be special, the movement is outstanding as is the interchanging of positions, nightmare to defend against, but the midfield 3 tonight were superb too, again great movement, but also finding great spaces.

West Ham were poor after a decent start, and once we scored there was no way back for them, but it shouldn't take anything away from how we played, and we just played the last 20 minutes of the game out without breaking sweat.

I thought Yaya's play tonight was brilliant, he's always available, but I really like how he slips between the CB's when we are defending, but uses the ball so intelligently when under pressure, and that causes teams big issues for me, because 2 or 3 surround him, leaving others free, and we have 'special' others.

Willie - 6
Sagna - 6
Stones - 6
Otamendi - 6
Kolarov - 6
Yaya - 8
Silva - 8
De Bruyne - 8
Sterling - 7
Sane - 8
Jesus - 8

Didn't rate the subs as they didn't have to do very much, though I thought Delph in particular tried to do things going forward when he came on.

{edit}

On the stadium, I was quite near the back of the second tier, and was surprised by the good view, it wasn't as far away as I expected it to be, but the atmosphere, its awful, a lot of singers around where I was tonight, but almost every song faded and died after 1 rendition, hard to see how West Ham can recreate Upton Park in there, its just not a football stadium, I've always enjoyed the Upton Park atmosphere, especially at night games, but that will never come close for me.

Hordle went above and beyond tonight. You can just hear it in his voice.

It's completely unprofessional and even worse that BT stand for it.

They try to counter by using Dunne but it's not a clever smokescreen at all, Hoddle just has to much hatred to get around it.

If they had any respect they'd just fuck him off from our games

Better still get rid of him with no replacement as the coverage would improve.

Another example of a decent footballer with no management skills whatsoever whose name as a player open some doors that should have been closed.

Shocking pundit but then again I haven't come across a good one yet.

Where's 'Bluehammer85!' Said Snodgrass was going to rip us apart!...
That didn't go well did it?
