West Ham United (A) | Post-Match Thread

A good portion of the Villa fanbase will definitely be hungry for Grealish to be screwed over by City not winning the league, but there's a difference between that toxic part of the fanbase and the team itself. Grealish still has a number of close friends in that team. Not saying for a minute that those players will be looking to do City any favours but they won't be out for personal revenge against Jack either. I expect Villa to turn up professionally against City like they did against Liverpool recently, but it's an eminently winnable match for City.
Could've been worse oppo but i just think people are underestimating Villa... They'll be rough while someone like Coady will do LiVARpool favors on the final day..

Grealish on the Mahrez penalty miss:

I'm not looking to dig Mahrez out for the miss, but I rewatched it on MOTD and it's very noticeable that he LOOKS right at the spot where he's intending to shoot just before he kicks the ball (the TV picture was taken from behind the goal). If the TV audience could see it on the replay, the keeper could definitely see it before the pen was taken. So the save wasn't quite as lucky as it might have first appeared. The nerves got to Mahrez and that's why he forgot not to look. Understandable in the circumstances, but annoying none the less.

It's the same place he puts the large majority of his penalties tbf. He just didn't get the same lift that he usually does to keep it out of the reach of the keeper if he goes the right way.

For every Crystanbul there are 20 games where opposition hasn’t bothered turning up on the last game of the season against the Champions elect.
In the last 30 years the title has been clinched on the final day 8 times. Wigan losing 8-0 at Chelsea is probably the only occasion when the title winner’s opponents could genuinely be said to have not bothered turning up.

There have been other games where the title winners ran out comfortable winners in the end eg Brighton 1 City 4, but that wasn’t down to a lack of effort on their opponents part.

I like Jesus too, and I get the sentiment in here right now. Ultimately though, I think he's one we'll all very quickly forget about when we're watching Alvarez and Haaland bag a shit tonne of goals. I'm sure he'll do elsewhere but something would have to go catastrophically wrong for any of us to think 'we made a mistake'.
I think keeping jesus will be very important..two young players mentioned have zero prem experience..you can introduce gradually but both leading the line from game one? Very lucky if that comes off...season of bedding them in would be better.

He isn't a good penalty taker, in fact none of the team are.
It's been an issue now for 3 seasons, not sure what the stats are but I would suggest we have missed probably 50-60% of pens.
Question is do they practice them?

Morning all. Great game at the weekend (sorry to upset the party)
Just wanted to say it was excellent to see your fans giving our Mark Noble a deserved round of applause. From prior to the game; in the 16th minute and at the end your supporters were excellent. Always like City (West Ham of the north).

We needed that point to keep the pressure up on your noisy (but shite) neighbours (in fairness most of their fans are probably our neighbours).

Anyway, good luck in the last game, can't have the Dippers winning any more this season. See you at your gaff in 22/23

<snip>. It seems that professional footballers are natural party poopers.

They’ll be playing in front of a huge television audience. They’ll relish it.

Anyone who saw how much Brentford's goalscorers celebrated yesterday will agree.

whatever about Haaland, we’ve seen him in CL.
But what makes anyone think Alvarez is any better than Jesus?
I hope he is, but the footage of Jesus in South America looked every bit as impressive as Alvarez.
Jesus has the benefit of PL experience too.

Its called giving the keeper the eye...unfortunately the keeper wasnt fooled, many are.

Jesus has evidently been showing more heart and quality than both Sterling and Mahrez when it mattered this season... I'd also try and keep him over the latter two. But he seems to be set on leaving. Foden - Jesus - Sterling for the final game in my bood.

I'd argue if he had started the Champions League final last season instead of Sterling, we could be talking a very different outcome.

The minutes Gabby was on the pitch, Chelsea couldn't live with his intensity.

The players and the team set the expectations - me and you as a fan need to hold them accountable for that. Yeah u get a "off" game, yesterday was not an off game - we shot ourselves in the foot. All in all changed need to be made. Likewise when attackers play poor - someone else comes in, that should be the standard for defenders - next game we need changes in the lineup.
So who the fuck should have come on for the defenders?? Do you not understand Laporte isn't fit, Fernandinho is a 37 year old midfielder, Walker Stones and Dias are injured and Ake isn't fit. Cancelo and Zinchenko are there for what they bring to the attack not necessarily the defence? It's the way we play and have done for years

Jesus will be 26 at the start of next season. At that age he’ll understandably want to be playing nearly every week. I think Pep would like him to stay but he’s not going to give him any assurances that he will get more game time and Pep has repeatedly said that he will not stand in the way of players who want to stay. And we should get a decent fee for him as it seems that a few clubs are interested.

I knew we’d draw either at wolves or West Ham. That’s went I was so delighted with the spurs point at the dippers. We can do Villa no problem with a bouncing Etihad. Can’t wait

The biggest win of the season was at Wolves. We knew winning it would provide a margin of error of our own.

There's a good reason theyre interested bud.
