I'd prefer De Bruyne in defence rather than Fern. Most games our centre backs are halfway into the opposition half anyway, but the main thing they need to have is some sort of recovery pace.

Not saying I'd want Kev there ideally, but we have other options further forward. Sticking him back would remove the (previously awesome) 37 year old from the lineup.

Maybe it is mental, but not a piss take no. :-D

Kev's quality, he could play anywhere, he could still hit quality passes playing a little deeper.

If he was back there, we could still have Rodri in front of him giving some security, alongside Bernardo and Gundo. We could still have any 3 of 6 upfront. It would be a quality lineup and one with better recovery pace for when Villa inevitably hit longballs over the top for Watkins, when Fern just wouldn't be able to keep up.

Hmm, as much as I want him to play I can't help thinking play through injections could make his ankle 10x worse as do serious damage.

It's a tough one. The chances of injuries to al three of them at the same time ffs.

TBF I only half jokingly suggested Rodri at centre back and Eddie in midfield, so as off the wall ideas go yours isnt too bad.....still mental though

Ur last resort should be academy players, not makeshift midfielders who aren’t even the best players when it comes to their natural position let alone converting them to defenders. I don’t want to hear bullshit excuses "they are not ready" if not now when? Do they magically become ready when they are 27? Zinchenko providing to the attack lol? He’s slow and weak. Can he do anything Josh Wilson can’t? Ake was fit enough to be on the bench. Even if he could only play 20 mins and start that would be 100x better than ferna.

The only worry I have is if they saw how West Ham defended and try to setup the same way. Gerrard doesn't have that defensive mindset in him though so we should get chances but we just need to make sure we score more than they do..

Liverpool still have to win both of their games too and they need to be very careful now as any big injury could cost them the Champions League. They've already possibly lost Salah and Van Dyk might not play this week. They'll try and do the least possible against Southampton, they only need to draw and that's it more or less done and dusted.

You are right but we also had an animal named Aguero who could score from anywhere in the box. That was our insurance for years - ur striker will get u a goal when u give them the chance. Our defense is making me scared ngl

We've scored more goals this season than we did during the 18/19 season and we've got one more game to go.

So just so I'm clear you're suggesting we start the penultimate game of the season away at a club needing points for european qualification and fielding the biggest beast in the premier league alongside one of the in-form players with a defence consisting of a half fit Laporte and either 3 academy players or two academy players and a half fit Ake?

And that a half fit Ake (who I'm a big fan of by the way, think he's the best actual defender we have when fit) is 100 times better than Fernandinho?

I'm not even going to challenge your opinion on Zinchenko as obviously you don't believe he has a place at this club
