West Ham United (A) | Post-Match Thread

I always feel better when City need to win a game, but what chance the Villa game is a mirror of the one today. I would have thought before hand that the difficult game would be the Newcastle one and not the West Ham one! But, it just goes to show, who can predict a football game, one way or the other?
Wolves and West Ham were the two banana skins for me we have come through them, nothings a given in football but I’d rather be at home needing the win than being away again for the last game of the season ..

So what was the alternative? Ake isn't fit obviously, and Antonio would have bullied any of our up and coming youngsters.

Antonio is a beast, on the plus side, Haaland is an even bigger beast, I can't wait for next season
Mbete it would be then. Pep had 1 whole year to figure out Ferna not a good CB when scousers won the league, if he sometimes get caught in transition when he was a midfielder what would u think would happen when he plays as a cb. Are the academy lads just in first team training for vibes and group photos or bc they are good enough? Today was a opportunity to truly to see what either of Mbete/ CJ was made of.

Anyone notice on the pen did West Ham players encroach the penalty area ?
Yeah but they’ve not been giving the tight ones all season. They only give it now if your whole body is in the box as too many saved penalties were being retaken for someone’s shoulder being in the box.

They sat back but we did have 31 attempts.

We have had 82 attempts in our last 4 games. I’d be more worried if this had dried up but it’s got better.

The one who cleared the ball was outside the area when it was struck
His feet were but he was leaning over the line with his head and shoulder but no complaints, they’ve not given them all year because no one wants them to be retaken for that.

At the end of the day, the draw at least means that winning the title is in our own hands. First half defensive display was terrible and to be honest it wasn’t much better in the 2nd half. We could have had a penalty in the first half and at least the one in the second half was given. 50% success rate better than normal from those wonderful match officials! Thought Jack had a good game particularly in the 2nd half and hope that the goal gives him a bit more confidence. I was surprised at the lack of substitutions especially as the next game is a full week away. Thought he could have perhaps introduced fresh legs for the last 10 minutes. Anyway, we move on to Steve Slippy G and the Villa next week. Let’s create a fantastic atmosphere and get behind the lads.

I think maybe the problem was that Pep wouldn't want to put a youth player in with Laporte/Cancelo and Zinchenko defending. Maybe. I wouldn't want to make one of my first games for City with that 3, away from home against a side with Bowen and Antonio up front!

All that said, it does make you wonder how we will ever know if they are good enough if they don't play in games?

That's a very low bar you're judging him by. He needed VAR to bail him out on the second - what does that say about his judgement in real time ?
Judging his performance on his typical standards which is very low. Think he’s generally in the bottom 5 refs in the league so today I thought he was very good. Outside of the penalties he did a good job

It wasn’t.

The one in the first half could have been given, but to not give two in the game would have been BLATANT. They didn't really have a choice at that point. I think if the first incident hadn't have happened they could have easily ignored the one on 85 minutes. They didn't and we missed.
It is impossible to get through to youse lot.
