Shepherd Neame Cracklewick is a beautifully crafted mahogany ale that is well worthwhile sampling.

I've tried most of Shepherd Neames' range at "The Mabel Tavern" near Euston which is one of their own pubs. Decent beer, always well kept, and reasonably well priced for central London.

Just arrived at Jolly Tars and a slight disappointment on the choice of ales available. It's a smaller spoons so was to be expected, but is our glass half empty or half full.

Started off with a bottle of Trivento Malbec Mendoza for the wife which is a master of wine winner 2021 and also best of Argentina scoring 91. Smacks of value at £12 and far far superior to Havens £20 house offering at the Mash n Barrel yesterday that was dreadful.

I've kicked of with a Shipyards IPA to line the stomach for an upcoming pint of Old Growler porter.. Can't see the Goblin on tap which I was looking forward to, but no mither and may give the Salopian Darwins Origin a sniff. Special thanks to Tim for looking after his real ale aficionados. Best Landlord ever!

Although i say "each to their own" i can't stand most real ales because i find most are not cold and refreshing enough. I'll never forget going on the Yorkshire ale trail and my mate insisted i had a pint of sweaty sock water in every pub. I did and how i didn't projectile vomit in my mate's face i don't know.

I always get a bad arse from Wetherspoons ale, fine everywhere else.

Spoons consistantly score a 5 star Casque Marque excellent with their inspectors, that have been checking his establishments since 1999.

They check ales for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste. Casque assesers are highly trained industry professionals and are on record as saying spoons have some of the best scores in the industry of any managed pub . Just saying like and hope your sphincter improves : /

One of the few outstanding ales is Theakstons Old Peculiar for many decades now - and Wetherspoons have stocked it quite often now.

In my local 'Spoons right now (Iron Duke, Wellington). Started with the strongest of the lot, the King Goblin at 6.6%. Lovely ale, couldn't manage more than half a dozen though :-)

Others available today are:
Redemption Big Chief (5.5%)
Salopian Darwin's Origin (4.3%)
Steel & Oak Easy Stout (4.%)

£2.25/pint.

(Also on tap are their regulars, so here that's Ruddles, Doom Bar and Greene King).

Not everyone likes 'Spoons, I get that, but you simply cannot argue about the price (these aren't even special offers). Even here in Somerset those beers in any other pub are an absolute minimum of £3.80, up to around a fiver or more.

Don't get me wrong though, I support plenty of indy pubs around here as well, and I'm happy to pay more for beer in those places at least twice per week.

Real ale is supped by beady eyed bearded types who waffle on about shit like morris dancing and narrow boat restoration. I won't be drinking any lukewarm sweaty sock water.

How much ignorance you can get in 4 lines is outstanding, well done.

That's up to you city hobgoblin. No drama in a spoons if you need your pint topping up or changing. I find the only problems I have with shit beer or short measurements are not in spoons establishment's. If you want a half you can have a half ÷/
