Great to see this result today and a big fuck off to to all of those who have criticised Ian Wright and Alex Scott for saying it like it is.
My second cousin played for Manchester Corinthian Ladies in the 50s. For those that don't know they were a ladies football team from Manchester that toured internationally and were true pioneers of the women's game, in fact our very own Bert Trautmann chaperoned them on their tour of Germany in the late 50s. They were at one time the unofficial England ladies team and I'm proud to say our Barbara was a part of that team (and a blue!). The only reason they were unofficial was because the FA banned women from playing! Hard to believe but true.. My daughters have played at County and Elite Centre of Excellence level for various clubs throughout their teens and are now at Loughborough University doing sports (they've obviously inherited the football gene from Barbara, definitely not from me!). Over the years I have witnessed the prejudice and piss taking against the women's game first hand and It's no surprise to hear people airing their small-minded opinion on here that there's a time and a place for comments about women's standing in the game (probably the same people that moan about taking the knee and footballers having a social conscience etc). Alex and Ian's comments are fully justified. To hear people say there's a tine and place for this kind if thing can fuck right off..the women's game has limited exposure compared to the men's game so if there's an opportunity to tell people like it is to a big audience then fair enough.
Some remarks are just pure misogyny.

But I think most are just based on ignorance to both the challenges to the women’s game that still exist and the principles of creating change.

As far as the latter, as you said, the first thing you are taught in any sort of civil advocacy or change management training is that you have to use the biggest forum, that reaches the most people, at your disposal at any given time.

And you have to ignore calls of “this is the wrong moment” or “this is the wrong place”, because that will almost ALWAYS be said no matter which moment or place you choose to advocate your cause, and it is almost always by those that oppose your cause.

If you abide by those calls, no advocacy will ever take place, or it will take place in the exact form that the opposition want (which is to say the least effective form possible, rendering it all but futile).

Ian and Alex where using the biggest forum yet available to them and laying down a gauntlet to the many corporate entities that claim to support women’s sport (or women’s issues in general) but barely actually do anything to improve conditions and outcomes.

That’s not all organisations by any means; many do great things for women in sport. But many do not. Or just ultimately pay lip service to it.

The challenge has been laid down by these talented women, who have won the first senior trophy for England for more than half-a-century, in exciting fashion.

Everyone needs to rise to it.

Great achievement for the England team and women’s football.
But the way the media are relating it to England winning the World Cup in 1966 is all a bit daft.

Amazing achievement and huge congratulations to the ladies.

But,you are right...the attempt to compare is ridiculous,it's a completely different game and has zero bearing on men's football.

Going to be honest here, I didn’t even know the winning goalscorer played for us.

Anyway, congratulations to the England team, it’s a superb achievement and of the little bits I saw of the tournament was fully deserved.
