What a superbly run football club we are now.

I love the club and the way they handled today is top class.

A bit of me wonders if this was Plan A though.

There's a couple of reasons:
1. The mood music until recently is that nothing could be confirmed till impossible for City to play Bayern. I could well see that this would be a clear preference for Bayern, probably Pep, but probably not City.
It strikes me that perhaps that was the original verbal agreement.
2. The website crashing is just shit business practice and gives the impression of poor planning.

So - maybe it was Pellers who has pushed this early announcement through. There is something in his choice of words about informing the club of his intentions some time ago. I'm sure that it was all done with grace and class but it all leads me to think what we saw today was Plan B not Plan A.

Disclaimer - could be total bollocks and who cares anyway as Pep is on his way

The statement from the club came a whole 2/3 mins after Pellegrini dropped his bombshell.
Are some people really suggesting a press release could be knocked up and more importantly - be approved by our communcations department in that timeframe?

^^
I'm not - I am suggesting it might have been a Plan B prompted by Pellers desire to get it out there. This could have been a conversation that's happened in the last couple of weeks

The issue about playing Bayern never made much sense. It was only really feasible if City or Bayern lost in the next round of the CL and an announcement could be made in March. Otherwise it would have meant making an announcement in late April or May which was never going to happen. And its just not that big a deal. If City draw Bayern, both City and Pep will just laugh off any suggestion of a fix.

I suspect that City left the decision largely to Pellegrini all along. Allowed him to decide when the continuing speculation became too tiresome. And from his point of view it gives him the chance to make himself available for job offers, of which there will be many.

Now that the announcement has been made there will be a few days of fuss and then Pellegrini can focus on winning trophies. And top players around the world will know who will be our head coach next season.

Yet more evidence, should any be needed, of what a professionally run football club we are. This appointment could have been a minefield, with unhappy staff, press recriminations, everything. But Khaldoon, Txiki, Soriano et al have handled the whole thing with magnificent diplomacy and it reflects incredibly well on them all. They've obviously had a totally honest relationship with Pellegrini from the start, and that has reaped it's own reward now.

It is, of course, far from the first piece of evidence that we are run by serious players, guys who can see the critical path of each decision, and who instinctively understand that what comes around goes around, and therefore you should act with integrity. We got pretty much a clear run at all of our summer targets, didn't get in bidding wars and generally kept our council well. We obviously sewed up players and agents well ahead and were just left negotiating.

It's worth mentioning on this score that De Bruyne's agent came out and commented on how honest and transparent City had been right through the process. It's worth mentioning Delph's double U Turn, because somebody at MCFC left the door open after his first mind change, and that paid huge dividends.

There are of course, more obvious signs of our stature, like the CFG, the keeping-quiet of the Chinese deal, the behind-the-scenes FFP fight, the stadium expansion. But the little things like this keep coming to the surface now. The club is being run by serious players, capable movers and shakers, the kind of focussed, clever, subtle people who make the biggest businesses successful.

I've accused this club in the past of being a Ferrari driven by a teenager. Those days are well behind us now. We are the real deal from bottom to top and we represent Abu Dhabi perfectly, with dignity, style and class.

Money shouts, wealth whispers. Everything is in place.

Fantastic post and spot on. Even the way we've handled it today, announcing it on our own website, completely coming out of the blue (even if it was football's worst kept rumour). We are managed by world class people, from top to bottom. Everything this club does of significance is well handled. Now we aren't perfect, and the club naturally will make the odd mistake, but sometimes I just can't fathom how incredibly well structured and managed we've become. I mean this is Man City. The king of cock ups... right?!

Nice work.

Yep - great work from the club. This proves that the club have had a target for a long time. They have put everything in place over the 3-5 years including the appointment of Txiki and Soriano to get the ultimate target - Pep

If stories are true we have rejected or overlooked Mourinho, Klopp, Ancelloti & Simione due to Pep

I do think this has been a Plan B announcement based around Manuel wanting it and as respectful as we are - we have done it for him.

This club can reach the heights of the stratosphere and beyond. We're a ridiculously well run club, leaving no details spared.

The way we've handled this whole saga has been superb.

Was thinking about the other day, pal.

We've set fire to their house and are building ourselves a castle. And all they can do is chuck buckets of water and watch our construction going up.

Sounds great pal, especially considering the confirmation today. Get your head down mate

The best owners in the history of the universe. Sheikh Mansour we're in heaven because of you. You little wonder, you, as (David Bowie once said).
