matt,hi ya.
how international players do Hamburg have playing this week ?

Hmm, 12 I think

Jarolim (Czech), Jansen, Trochowski (both Germany), Pitroipa (Burkino Faso), Mathijsen (Holland), Olic (Croatia), Guerrero (Peru), Rincon (Venzuela), Demel (Ivory Coast), Aogo, Boateng (both Germany U21) & Torun (Turkey U21)

Not sure if the U21's have got any games in the next few weeks though.

Matt, what's the name of that skinny tall african you have up front? He looked decent in the friendly we had.

Yeah, that's Pitroipa, one of the wingers...that friendly was and still is his best performance for us this season.

Nah seriously, he's taken alot of stick and one of those "urrgh, don't give the ball to him" kinda players cos he'll screw up. Fastest player in the squad but sometimes forgets to take the ball with him...like Emile Mpenza, although he was kinda like a headless chicken. Jol has kept faith with him though and he has looked lively in the last two games.

cheers matt,what about petric ?

He's injured for a fair few weeks, unforunately. I would make a joke about him scoring another winner in England but that game still hurts me...even now ;-)

sdm said:
Matt is there a buzz about any of our players with your fans??

ie, someone they are all looking forward to see play,or really fearing?

Robinho, obviously. Also the return of Kompany but purely just to see what kinda reaction he would get. Strange, cos I know for sure that if de Jong was playing, he'd get applause and possibly cheers when his name is read out.

Anyway, on a personal note - as well as the two above, I'm looking forward to seeing Wright-Phillips, Richards, Elano, Ireland, Bellamy and Given. Hope Petrov is fit too. Always thought he was the best left-winger/midfielder in the Bundesliga when he was at Wolfsburg and thought it was a fantastic signing by City. Strange for Wolfsburg to let him go to Atletico in the first place but ah well.

I've pointed out that Robinho, Wright-Phillips, Richards, Bellamy and Ireland are the men to look out for. I think the Germans are aware of SWP after his England performances though. Robinho goes without saying, although I think his poor run of form seems to be lost on the majority.

Matt, don't listen to some of the shite you've heard and read about robinho,he's a match winner. The others you mention are very good players, you didn't mention Zabeleta who is our hard as fuck don't mess with me argentinian ,personally i think if it was'nt for Zanetti he would have 30 caps already,he's that good and he's early 20's.

Would you like to give anyone a special mention, who we should be looking forward to see play?

Yeah that's Southern Germany, mate. Bugger all to do with Hamburg or their fans...

Although I applaud you for your stereotyping ;-)

Well from what I've seen from Robinho on MOTD & Sky, he only turns up and plays when he feels like it. Half the time he gives the impression he's not interested and half the time he's a genius. Ah well, soon find out which half of him turns up :-)

We've not got a team of well-known players, tbh. Unless you know your European football. Players like Jarolim, Mathjisen & Olic might be remembered from the Euros, perhaps.

I know the game mate,Olic is nice and tidy nothing more and a touch lightweight. With regards to robinho if he's on the ball in the box watch your full back shit a brick,he'll walk round him every time. It's pick on city time atm so most of the highlights you see will be followed by negative press. You'll see for yourself what he's all about.A big game player will be up for this big game ,i'm sure .Brazil do not have poor attacking players and he plays regularly for them.

ALWAYS thought we should do something like this once in a while .........

some chants are too long and dont really sounds menacing at all (secret to our away losses perhaps? not scaring opposition players?)

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IReMfvamQ28" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IReMfvamQ28</a>

something like this would sound GREAT coming from all sides of the pitch ......

but place different words:

eg: ......... CITY FANS ! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION !?! ....etc

anybody like the idea? cos me n mates have been doin it on nights out n shite like that n coming from more than 1 guy it sounds quality !

imagine 48,000 doing it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are looking for stereotype Germans, you should be more detailed.

A stereotype German from the north, very much from Hamburg would look like this:

I was wondering why hamburg are playing in red this year (or at least you certainly did against Galatasaray and Aston Villa)? I always thought your home colours were blue black and white, although I remember the friendly in pre-season you were wearing white.

Wearing red gives us one more reason to want to beat you....

Home colour white, away colour black and blue, European away colour red.

Regarding ManCity players: I think everybody is aware that City will have good players on the field, and maybe there is some extra respect for the likes of Robinho. But on the other hand everybody is aware, that pretty much everybody starting for Hamburg is an international and therefore capable of showing some brilliance in every game. Olic and Petric have shown it against a lot of international teams (including England and Germany btw), Mathijsen played even better for Holland than De Jong did during the Euros (what Euros, you will ask, I know ;) ), and Rost has been one of the best German keepers for 10 years (despite Kahn, Hildebrand, Enke, etc). The most interesting part is, that everybody loved De Jong, but he is not really missed, much less so Kompany, who very rarely showed true brilliance. Alex Silva for example has had more good games in a much shorter time span than Vince.

Oh well, overall I guess it is normal that fans of one club idolize their own players and therefore talk them up for their own comfort somehow. (see English midfield before every tournament, etc. Probably don't have to tell you about the "Rooney is the best striker in world"-rubbish, or you don't have to tell me about the "Ballack, the great leader on the field"-crap...)

So I think, from a player-to-player comparison, City might have an 6-5 edge or so, but the team effort, luck, etc will decide these two games. Looking forward to it.

White Shirts and Red Shorts are the Hamburg city colours. Blue socks with black & white trim are the club colours, as is the away strip - which is either black or blue or both.

Red (or maroon and brown, urgh) is the European/3rd kit...because we feel the need to play in a different strip for the UEFA Cup and milk more money from the fans that are stupid enough to buy it.

Good post hamburg.i'll say our goalie, left back 2 centre halfs ,2 midfielders ,2 wingers and 1 striker are probably better than what you've got.that makes 9-2 to us ,but we've heard and said all this before.

It's probably more like 11-0 in your eyes - but you would probably come to that conclusion against every opponent in the UEFA-Cup... And I'm sure you said the same before the games against Wigan, Stoke, West Brom, etc... (even though I don't want to lower the expectations of my team that low ;) )

We're HSV...therefore our expectations should ALWAYS be low ;-)
