I've now moved on to Balvenie 12 year old Doublewood with a few drops (maybe a half-teaspoon) of water.

There was a time, maybe 6-7 years ago, when I though this version of Balvenie was a good whisky, but I think my tastes have changed and it no longer seems like anything special.

Still, if the supermarkets take enough off the standard price between now and Christmas I dare say I'll buy another bottle at some point.

working for tesco's I need to know if you really will buy an extra bottle tomorrow if we knock a quid off?

I tend to look at mysupermarket maybe once a week or 10 days, and see who's discounting what.

The supermarkets always seem to discount their malts in the few months leading up to Xmas, in some cases quite heavily. Not all at the same time, but there's normally 3 or 4 bottles with £5 or more off the 'usual' price.

I guess I've come to expect it, so I tend to hold off buying the ones the supermarkets tend to sell until the Autumn, then buy a few bottles to last me until the following year. e.g. last year I bought 4 bottles of Ardmore Traditional Cask, and I've still got two left.

I also buy from on line sources and my local speciality bottle shop, as there are so many different whiskies to try, especially from the smaller independent distilleries who are never going to get a look in at Tesco vs. the likes of Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie etc.
