Cheers Taxi,
We took the train of ale to Huddersfield and back, great to do on a weekday, although you have to be on your best traversing the pennines with school-children and business folk. We stopped off in Marsden at the Riverhead brewery and tap, wonderful. I drank a pint of this March Haigh and didn't want to leave, the best pint of ale I have ever tasted.
Next time you're in Huddersfield get yourself to this place. It's superb for beer.

Will give that a try pal. Really love the real ale.
If we carry on up the northern track we can change at Brighouse for the Huddersfield line.
Going to be doing a lot more ale trains now we have our two together rail card.

We stopped by Hebden the other day and recommend Calums micro pub.

You can't swing a cat in some with this one measuring around 14 foot by 12 foot.
That's good because it encourages conversation between the customers and staff. We all chatted casketeer talk about Centennial hop varieties and optimum brew temperatures. The landlord in that picture was smiling when we came in and had a tear in his eye when we left. Come again he grunted through pursed lip and come again we shall as he runs a very good house.
Best pint I had was the bosuns Ipa and the fruit ale off the special boards was exquisite.

We definitely will give Marsden a bash pal.
Wetherspoons start there real ale festival on the 11th of this month and although lacking in the character of these micro pubs they have a smart selection of ales from around the globe.
Adios.

As you know there are some real quirky places around here.

Stacksteads has the Bare Arts micro pub.
On the hills at the back of Stackey is something from out of a time warp. It's called the Kimberly club and still has no electric.Only gas lamps and a battery or three.
Slate bed floors and ales at £1.40 a pint.
Very compact yet bijou.
Have a read of this then from typos review..incredible and mind blowing ! Royston Vasey couldn't get a look in round these parts ; )

Have a look at the two photos in that blog of the members. Not a smile and taken straight out of a scene from Edward Woodwards Wicker Man.

Another good watering hole is the buffers at the steam railway.Cracking pint sat outside on a good day.

Ha ! He was one of the regulars and we were being a bit noisy with our jovial banter so he fooked off in the snug which was only six foot away.He was meditating in that photo.
Maybe medicating too.

I didn't mean Hop mate, I've been there a couple of times, it is pretty good.
Regularly go into Buffer Stops and make sure all my walks just happen to go past.

But the new one opened last night on Newchurch Road next to the market. The beer is brewed on a local farm.
