What are you listening to.................RIGHT NOW!!!

Still trying to work out if I like Down or not. PhilAnselmo was a fantastic front-man when in Pantera but he is now a shadow of that performer and his voice is now awful. The drink and drug abuse has taken its toll.

I do like 'Bury Me In Smoke' though. He looks and sounds fucked out of his mind in this live vid:

I always thought Phil was kind of a tool for letting Dime and the boys down with his side projects. The last time I saw Pantera he was on smack and his back was all f-cked up. But Nola is genuinely one of the great stoner - metal albums albums of all time. The others are kind of up to one's own personal taste, I guess.....

I think Phil was also told to stay away form Dimebag's funeral, pretty telling that with regard to their reationship with him by the time of Darrell's murder. I think he (Phil) said he used the drugs to combat the back pain you mention - I am not a back pain specialist but I doubt one requires heroin to deal with it.

I'll have to check 'Nola' out.....what is that? :)

New Orleans.... Nola. Pepper and Phil are from the town.

Just found it on Youtube, I shall have a listen a bit later on. I find myself comparing Down too much to Pantera and that is probably understandable but the wrong thing to do - I should just judge each band on its own merits.

Dimebag was an absolute riff monster and I love that about Pantera. Never had the privilege of seeing them live; what was it like?

Umm. FOUR things.... LOUD. LOUD. Pot Smoke and sweaty. Dimebag's back line was huge and Rex's bass was obese. They would often time bring exotic dancers onstage and I have the memory of one dissappeaing into the Pit never to return. Another abiding memory is a beer keg thrown through a truck camper outside a gig (on fire.) Their fans back then we're a different breed of human being.... not exactly Kaiser Chief devotes.

Haha sounds epic. I bet a few disappeared into her pit.

I love the live concerts on Youtube of them in Moscow and Seoul, Korea - looked absolutely incredible.

Pantera and Down will definitely be on my playlist this evening.
