What are you listening to.................RIGHT NOW!!!

When Kate gets involved, it always gets a smile from me, and thousands of others. A happy tune indeed.

I like the two earlier albums a lot ,but didn't buy them until after 'Dare'
Travelouge and Reproduction don't have the clean professional commercial production of Martin Rushent, but are special in their own way..imo

Iv e got quite a few of League rarities in my collection ,Inc The Men I don't depend on you 12" which is a poor release tbh.

The Holiday 80 double pack with 'Marianne' etc and a Japanese import 12" of the same with large pic label and the usual lyric banner sleeve are the pick of the bunch.

I met Phil and the two girls at a venue in Rotherham a few years back, heaven 17 were playing and Richard Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire was dj..quite a night.
Richard Kirk RIP.
If everything’s ready on the dark side of the moon, play the five tones.

It's like yesterday, innit? Well...not YESTERDAY..haha.....but 40 years ago? They should have had a 40th anniversary. The album doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.
That album changed my life.
It changed everything..
A work of Art.
Still prefer early HL..which I listened to after Dare
But that album was everything..
I can still remember the 1st keyboard beat to " The Things that Dreams are made of"...What a track, and what a way to introduce the world to the brilliance of The Human League.
Martin Rushten.....I doff my cap.

Do you remember all the picture discs on display in Virgin Records on Market Street? I wanted all the Bowie ones. It was just clever marketing by the record companies but us kids wanted them all!
Rampant Commercialisation. But as a teenager...you just wanted it all.

I'm old enough to remember when dare came out. It was indeed a bit of an eye opener. It was very much of its time but it's also one of those landmark albums that will be mentioned as a benchmark, a bookend on the left leaving a big space for futurebands on the right.
Phil and the girls have so many stories, experiences, and tales that I have heard and read over the years.
The thing that strikes me is how humble Phil is, it's almost like he doesn't know how influential he was.

Your right,Phil is incredibly humble.when I met him at Rotherham, I just had to tell him I had dj Goth nites and I always played Being Boiled...the most Goth track I've ever heard in my life....apart from
Seconds Too Late by Cabaret Voltaire.
Phil Oakley just listened. And smiled. He knew. He understood.
He was Cool.

From what I've heard he's a modest fella, he always said he learnt how to play properly when they went on the road.
This is a great interview with Vic Reeves and jools Holland.
