What are your roads like?

I don't live in Manchester, but I do come to City games often and to the City itself.

BUT not seen enough to judge what the state of the roads are like. Trying to navigate the Leodisian roads is like driving a fire engine around London after the latest Blitz attack by Ze Germans. Potholes everywhere. Becoming a joke.

Are Manchester roads the same?
Variably corrugated tarmac. The patches are patched and the holes filled only to start 'reappearing' a week or so later.

Much of the road between the small side of this town and to to the main city is very bad after this winter, much frost heaving, roads have cracked in the middle and the sides.

Yep.
They fill em in and the potholes re-appear 6 months later

Would it be too much to ask for The Romans to re-invade Britain. At least they knew how to build and surface roads
That’s the reason they are called potholes, Roman’s made them predominantly from clay, people used to nick the clay to make pots for the kitchen, hence potholes!

We discovered if you complain, the road council fill the holes in, you need a good reason eg: dangerous for children etc: school, hospital, shops, doctors.
I was shocked to discover how quick they filled them in, when I pointed out the danger for local school children.

I left Manchester in 91 and have returned for a visit on average once a year, I always get a hire car and do a fair few miles, spending most of the time in Wilmslow, the Lake District and Buckinghamshire.
The roads in England are getting worse, I reckon the decline has been most noticeable over the last decade or so.
Not just the road surface but the shoulders, verges and public land in general.
I used to work mowing all along the dual carriageways in the Warrington area so I notice that stuff, the country just seems scruffy and unkempt these days as well as being overcrowded (Fuck me, I’ve turned into a boring old **** :-))
