What book are you reading now / or recommend?

Any recommendations please?

Prefer non fiction but anything other than horror please. Preferably Sport, Crime, Conspiracy theory genres please.

The tin roof blowdown - James Lee Burke. This is part of his Dave Robicheaux novels, a great thriller, but says more about the USA in the wake of hurricane Katrina. For me a must read.

Well finished The passage and it was really good next book I'm reading is Sleeping giants by Sylvain Neuvel

If you loved The Passage, World War Z, The Martian or Interstellar: this is a must-read thriller for you.

Deadwood, USA. A girl sneaks out just before dark to ride her new bike. Suddenly, the ground disappears beneath her. Waking up at the bottom of a deep pit, she sees an emergency rescue team above her. The people looking down see something far stranger...

"We always look forward. We never look back."

That girl grows up to be Dr. Rose Franklyn, a brilliant scientist and the leading world expert on what she discovered. An enormous, ornate hand made of an exceptionally rare metal, which predates all human civilisation on the continent.

"But this thing ... it's different. It challenges us. It rewrites history."

An object whose origins and purpose are perhaps the greatest mystery humanity has ever faced. Solving the secret of where it came from - and how many more parts may be out there - could change life as we know it.

"It dares us to question what we know about ourselves."

But what if we were meant to find it? And what happens when this vast, global puzzle is complete...?

"About everything."

Just started the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Book 1 in a series of 14 I think! Feels like familiar Tolkien/ASOI&F territory.

Do yourself a favour and don't bother. It has to be the most tedious series of books ever written. The characters in WOT can't go outside for a piss without 3 chapters about their feelings and a complete history of the patch of grass that they are about to piss on. Also iirc, Jordan died before finishing the series.

Read the first 4 books few years ago thought the first 3 were really good book four was ok but it was getting a bit boring.

From your comments elsewhere I think we have similar tastes so that's a bit worrying! I'll give it a go and let you know. Cheers for the advice!

I think it's one of those books that you either love or hate. I can't remember talking to anyone who was indifferent about it.

Series was finished by Brandon Sanderson, who used Jordan's notes and did a decent job of wrapping everything up.
You are correct though the series could have been about 5 books shorter without all the filler Jordan packed in.
