Read a bit of Ted Lewis, one of the pioneers of UK noir, nowadays known as ‘Brit Grit’Just finished GBH by Ted Lewis. A brilliant read if you like gritty British crime thrillers. Each chapter is 1-4 pages long and they are titled The Smoke & The Sea alternately.
A Mancunian who also wrote Jack's Return Home, which the film Get Carter was based on, Lewis was a chronic alcoholic who died in 1982 aged 42 (two years after the original release of GBH). He is regarded in litary circles as a genuine world class genius.
