What Can We Do With Milner?

I am as perplexed as everyone else. What does he actually bring to the team? I get the feeling he was a Marwood purchase not a Mancini one,and was bought for nationality/quota reasons more than footballing ones. That's not to say that he's a bad player,he isn't.He's a solid Prem League player,he never moans and is obviously a great trainer, but he lacks technique, which at Villa he could probably get away with. Not so here at City.He maybe would be more effective in the middle, but as others have said that aint gonna happen.I get the impression that Mancini plays him in front of SWP purely because he's physically bigger and therefore harder to knock off the ball. Both players provide no end product, are poor decision makers,
and struggle in the current set up.Both would flourish in the opposite direction to which we are heading.

very versatile too as he can play a number of positions.

Mancini obviously rates him, as he has played in pretty much all of our biggest games.

Maybe not set the world alight yet at City, but the way some Blues write him off is pretty shameful. He has only been here 5 months after all.
agreed, and he does have 5 assists, tied with Tevez... no one else is making as many plays including Silva.

Hes Barrys replacement. But Barry is still doing a job. Really he was a complete luxury signing for us a quick fix and really I honestly believe we only signed him becuase of the financial regs we needed to get alot of business done in a short period of time.

Hes not a bad player, just being played out of position. One for the future IMO.

One of the few sensible posts on this thread, don't know why some are so eager to write off players.

don't just confuse between BARRY and MILNER....Barry is much better than milner because he gives good pass and can defend well better than milner.
Milner should learn from Silva how to hold the ball and give perfect pass....MIlner should hold the ball and keep his head up...what i have seen is when he gets the ball he doesn't think at all he just runs and gives pass while he is head is down so almost wrong pass to the opposition ....what i want MILNER is to improve technically not just by running . i believe if ur technically good u can play any position .people here say he is central midfielder that is not true ...he shld improve just by keeping the ball and should n't be harry to give pass and he should open his eyes while he is going forward...i don't want him to be out of this team as he is good character..doesn't drink and smokes..typically he is MARWOOD choice not mancini.

Milner is a long term signing, home grown / young / versatile

Our home grown quotient is fine at the moment, but in years to come...

Given...gone
Sweep...gone
Ned...gone
Logan...gone
Richards...stay possibly
Bridge...gone
Barry...stay
Milner...stay
Johnsons... stay possibly
Hart... stay
Lescott... gone possibly

Remember, 8 out 25 need to be homegrown or we have to leave spaces.

And Chamions League is worse... 4 of the 25 need to be club trained: Hart (if he qualifies, not sure), M.Johnson, Richards and err... Logan (that's why he's in the Euro squad!)
