What City player was most over rated by our own fans

Despite over 100 goals?
Of course, as that is an undeniable fact.

When we've signed some top European strikers in the last few years I've heard and read supporters use Goater as a benchmark for them.

This is a guy we signed from Bristol City (when he was approaching his peak) and sold to Southend. I love him, love the way he stuck at it after a lot of abuse and he scored some truly memorable goals (Wigan play off semi; Blackburn promotion; last Maine Road Derby x2) but he was a fairly limited player who scored 13 Premier League goals in two seasons.

It says a lot about our club and its supporters that he remains a legend to this day as it shows we haven't forgotten where we've come from, but as a player he is vastly overrated by many City fans.

Was it not Reading wee sold him to?
Yes. Thought that might be wrong and checked and edited, but you beat me to it, Mick :-)

Hope you're well, mate.

Some players achieved cult status without meriting it and defying my comprehension. One such was that manic tearaway Tiatto. Loads of fans seemed to adore him, but he was a liability, a step away from a booking every time he went near the ball. And he hadn't much ability either. Another was Nicky Reid, overrated by many supporters and by Allison too.

Elano -I thought he was shite most of the time. Over hit pass after over hit pass, combined with the heart and desire of a snail with a cold.

As for people mentioning Goater, I don't think he was ever classed as a brilliant player. The very reason he is classed as a cult hero is because he was succesfull for us, scoring lots of goals and giving 100% in every game despite his limitations.
Least that's what my interpretation of him was anyway.

Dickov - Scored a supremely important goal but we'd never have been in that division had he been doing his job during the previous couple of seasons.
Some of our jokers even preferred him to Anelka just because he ran around a lot.

De-Jong. Loved his commitment and hard tackling. Nige was probably the best tackler in the prem at the time, but take his tackling and commitment out of his game and he'd be a good championship player at best IMO as he lacked vision on the ball, a killer pass and was too negative by mostly passing square and backwards.

And yes, I realise Garcia is NOT an improvement on NDJ!
