I'm not doubting what you've said, I haven't looked into this much and have heard theories about it.

The Diana being delayed to the hospital portion is something I've heard addressed but to what truth I don't know.

Allegedly French ambulances aren't like in many other countries where the EMT's grab and go and basically try to get to a hospital asap for the doctors to attend to the patient. I heard/read, can't remember where, French ambulances will stay on the scene and try to stabilize the patient before proceeding to the hospital.
