The club can give out as many free scarves as it likes, it can promote flag days and all the other tosh... but from day one, the idiot who decided to give half a stand to the away fans is the person to blame.
We should move the away fans out to the third tiers, bring all the City fans under one roof and I'm certain the atmosphere will improve.
The support is too split up and there is no focal point. If they can give a stand over to the prawn sandwich brigade, and a stand to the familiies, why not a stand for the "lads"?
In the past the close proximity of away fans helped create an atmosphere, rather than dilute it. Yesterday was embarrassing when a couple of hundred Blackburn fans were making a racket to virtually no response from the South Stand...
I've heard this 'the away fans make a difference to the atmospere' thing before. But anyone who thinks that, just go and have a look at any Besiktas or Red Star Belgrade fans videos on YouTube and tell me that the away fans are important... !
What's important is large dedicated vocal area who sing songs for prolonged periods of time (not one or two verses and give up before it even reaches the block next to you) and get te whole stadium bouncing. You guys in the vocal areas have more responsibility for atmosphere than you are able to cope with (that is apparent, either that or you can't be arsed), one because you aren't dedicated enough at making it good, and two because there aren't enough of you!
There are plenty of us in all the other blocks around the ground who get our blocks going when you guys kick-off with great volume and great length of songs, that's been seen in the odd derby game and the Hamburg game and our two wins against Chelsea at the CoMS. But a handful of excellent atmospheres in 7 years is t good enough! And the only thing that can change it is if our vocal areas are bigger, better and more dedicated durig the matches and with preparation in weeks leading up to games!
