what do we really need.

We need quality backup for CB.

And we need CM backup.

Martinez as he could do both jobs.

We don't play with wingers, so no point in signing one.

Hart
Richards, Kompany Lescott, Clichy
Sneijder
Yaya Martinez
Silva Kun Nasri

I think there is a need for a winger who's going to be direct and whip a ball onto Edin's/Mario's head when we really need it. It doesn't have to be a superstar, just someone who's quick, good end product and is willing to accept a squad role

This isn't going to happen as long as Mancini is in charge. He likes his "wingers" to cut inside and crosses to come from full backs.

I agree that we shouldn't be shopping for wingers that will break the bank because we truly do not use them. AJ could be class if he got more games and I do feel sorry for him, however, Mancini plays a different way. That said, it is important to have a winger option on the bench or game to game based on the teams we play and how we look each game.

Bale however is not necessary unless we gave him another shot at left back. It would be however an exspensive risk.

I personally would only bring in 3 players...Fellaini, Eriksen and a quality centre back. Eriksen is a must get for me. Kid is an assist machine.

All very IF 'ish isnt it? Bottom line is that we cannot compete in Europe with the team we have and I certainly wouldn't want to go into the next Season with question marks over so many players that you highlighted.

As for saying BARRY is awesome and underrated - sorry, no, he isnt - like Lescott, he's a pretty good English Premiership footballer, no more and no less. Like a lot of English players, they lack top draw skills.

We dont need cover for Lescott - we need him to be the cover for a world class centre back who doesn't need Hart to hoof the ball on his behalf, thereby surrendering possession, because he lacks the pace and ability to bring it forward himself.

We also need a holding midfield player with the necessary skills to develop the game rather than always going sideways and just covering for the centre half.

Let's use Barca as the benchmark.

Hart's a better keeper. Barca's fullbacks includin J Alba are better.
Puyol better than Joleo. Vincent better than Pique.

Midfield. Not even going to comment. Would just say that Yaya wouldn't be out of place in their team. But de Jong inferior to Busquets and Nasri inferior to Iniesta.

Front three. Silva, Kun, Tevez/Balo. This is the one area where we are probably better. OK they have Messi who is a one man team in truth. But you can certainly make a case for saying that Silva and Tevez are better than Sanchez, Pedro.

So we need a worldclass midfielder, and a quality fullback.

What we do not need is RVP.

The one player I feel would be great in your team is....

Alex Song.
I said this last season, he's the one signing we need. Not RVP, not Bale... Alex Song. I wouldn't be able to contain myself if we had Yaya and Song in midfield with Barry for cover.

When I started a thread saying Song would be a great signing for us I got slaughtered! Glad to see some share my views, he is a great player and would be good to have him competing with Barry & De Jong.

And for some suggestions for a quick winger that wouldn't break the bank how about Blaszczykowski or Navas? Or if we want to go really cheap and for someone content to just play every now and then what about Diego Castro at Getafe?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You should go for Alex Song.

I agree about Song. There are only a few positions we don't have someone world class in, or with the potential to be so in the future. One of them is the role that Barry played next to Yaya as a limited regista. I think Barry is a good player, but he isn't world class and he will struggle to fulfil that role. I'd like someone similar to sahin, alonso or pizzaro and pirlo in their prime. Players that can hold and protect from the counter, play long cross field passes to switch the play or take advantage of a counter attacking opportunity.

I'm not inclined to argue for us to buy heavily considering how much I am attached to the current players after last year. Although tbh I was pretty attached to the group from the year before that won the FA cup. I was disappointed to see a couple of them leave, but I quickly came around. As many have said I think we 2 or 3 high quality players. However, if they're not high quality I don't see the point in going in for anyone.

I'd be content with one signing, ideally a regista, so that we could play a system like the one below in europe. Song isn't my ideal player to fill that role (Sahin would be great but unrealistic, or someone like Pirlo & Pizzaro in their prime), but he is a monster and would allow Yaya to bomb forward, whilst still being protected from the counter-attack. Also he does have a reasonable long passing game as well. Some of the balls he played over the top to Van Persie and out to walcott last year were absurd.

---------------Hart--------------
Richards, Kompany, Lescott*, Clichy
Yaya, Song,
Nasri Silva
Agüero
Balotelli

*I like Lescott, but we will need to replace him reasonably soon and if there is anyone that can do it, I guess it's Martinez. So if he was on offer I'd take him in a heart beat.

So I reckon we need a Regista and possibly a CB but only if it's Martinez.

-- Thu Jul 05, 2012 7:45 pm --

I agree about the Regista, but I'm not really sure Sneijder could do the job. He has certainly got a good passing game, but IMO making him play there would be similar to making Silva play as one.

Just need a couple really Javi Martinez cover in the middle and can play CB, then just an out and out winger someone we could get cheap like Junior Hoilett. It would just give us another dimension when teams park the bus as it where but I agree that no drastic overhaul is needed.

Probably give AJ the boot though, a winger that has no pace and always cuts inside.

has hoilett not gone to borussia munchingflapjack?

Heres my 2 pence on what need/will do...

Striker
It seems a striker is going to go (think how often Mancini complained about chances missed, and how we cant complain about the result when we miss so many.)
So probably Tevez/Edin out and one of Ibra, Cavani or RVP to come in.

Center Back
We are short on Cover for CB.
Savic to go out on loan. Martinez to cover CB and CDM

Deep Lying ball player.
He brought in Pizarro as a stop gap because he doesnt trust Milner there.
Another attempt at De Rossi who can play there or Martinez becomes 2for1.

Pace.
This is the most important for me. We lack real pace in behind and out wide.
Was predicting Bale, so now i'm stuck for guaranteed class. Any ideas?

We need to enforce in three positions,,,,

1.A very fast winger who can score on counter attack.....someone like Bale
2.A deep lying player......De Rossi and Javi Martines will be great
3.A defender to cover for Kompany and Lescott...Serdar Tasci will be great

I like the thought of Javi Martinez, as he would do two jobs, both very well. I personally would not change the forwards, and a winger with pace would be good. I had hoped that Bale would get itchy feet, but he seems to want to stay at Spurs right now.

Martinez seems to fit the bill for CB/CM, but I think we need another CM, one to pull the strings from deep and spot Aguero's runs, Sahin. A winger, ideally one with pace and excellent delivery, but if not, one who can actually cross a ball, put it into the areas defenders can't defend, but not just a speed merchant like Walcott.

I think I jizzed a little.

We need a Nani type player but more consistent. Somebody that can create something out of nothing. Also having a sort of deep lying play maker would bee good. And maybe better back ups for Vinny and Lescott

i can tell u right now, sneijder does not want to and is not good at playing as a deep lying playmaker that idiot ranieri tried him out there for a few matches to try and use his 3-4-3 and it was pretty awful. didn't work at all and he ended up being fired. sneijder is an attacking mid, by no means a deep lying playmaker

but on topic with the thread: CB CM/CDM
and for those saying a winger, dont think we need one. if RM needs one he'll sign one which should end all discussion on that
