What does it take to be considered a real City fan?

I have shed a tear every time we have got relegated since i starting following them in 1995.

I have shed a tear every time we have won a trophy.

I cried when we lost the Fa cup final.

I cried when they pulled apart Maine Road.

I ran around my local pub like an 8yr old boy when Aguero scored to win the league. (not a pretty sight as i am a fat balding man of 39 years)

If i had a cat i would have kicked it to the moon when Rooney's overhead shin-er went in.

I could have crushed a grape when michael owen scored the winner in fergie time.

I have put up with endless years of piss taking from family and friends. I honestly never thought supporting City would ever be any different. But i wore my City shirt with pride!

I laugh every time United lose.

Even though i have never attended a match, i still get all the feelings and emotions that come with being a supporter.

I'd like to think that i was a real city fan though, if you would have me please?

fair enough point. Let me explain.
I grew up following rugby. Never really got into football as a kid. Got to around 16 years old and then had my first missus. Spent 4 years with her before she dumped me. So at 21 years old i was on the scrapheap. Ended up going out on the piss with the lads. Went to watch Wales (try) and play football a few times, and then i remember Georgia coming to Cardiff and this little Georgian left footed player gave us the runaround and scored a cracking goal. The whole ground was impressed by him. I remembered his surname began with a K and ended in an E. Anyway that was in 1994 and then in 1995 when that little Georgian kid signed for City, i instantly remembered his name and so i started following him and the City. It was Kinky first and then City if im brutally honest. Thats how it started really.

As for not ever attending a match, well to be honest, i can only come up with lame excuses really. As a 21 yr old i wouldnt have felt comfortable getting on a train to go to manchester on my own. There were no City fans in my town back then. Going to a big city, not knowing a single person, used to scare me back then. through the 90's i was quite happy just going out on the lash and watching the footy in the pub. As a married man with 2 kids now, i really cant justify the 10 hour round trip and the money it would cost for a day out to watch a football match. For what it would cost me for that one day, could feed my kids for a week! Its a shit excuse i know but thats my reality. But i can assure you, every Saturday at 3pm, theres only one thing on my mind, and thats City.

Just because i have never been to a game doesnt mean i havent felt the joys of winning and the pains of defeat. Maybe im not a proper "die-hard " city fan from manchester, but id like to think i was a pretty decent loyal fan who's been through some of the worst times this club has seen and stuck with them through thick and thin and got through it all with pride and humour. And now im enjoying every bloody second of it!

And my crying? :-) Well what can i say, im Welsh, we're an emotional nation. Im not wierd honestly!

Are you not just like all the rags up and down the land that we have took the piss out of for years?
I'm not saying you don't love city and can see you have a reason to support them but all these rags can say, "Oh I support them because I fancied Ryan Giggs in 1995".
Please don't cry about this it's just my opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of others who think you are a real City fan.

If you can't justify the cost you're not a real City fan!!!

You cried when they pulled Maine Road apart but you've never been? So no memories of going, not sure why you'd need to be upset.

Surely a day in the pub watching the footy comes close to a day going to a game? Maybe cut back on the days in the pub and save up for a day up here!

Anyone of the brave 500 or so who were in the Stretford Paddock that day when Curley scored the penalty.

One of my biggest buzzes in football.

Scary as fuck for a 15-year-old kid.

27 September 1980 - I made a very late decision to go to the Swamp. I did not get a ticket for the game because I had an operation on my big toe the week before the game (suffered more pain than when I got my ankle broken in three places and dislocated at Hough End a year or so later!). Anyhow, I could not wear a shoe on my left foot. When it cam to the crunch, I just could not miss the game so donned my moon boots (under my jeans) and drove to Trafford.

The only ticket I could scalp was on the front row of the Stretford End seats. Suffice to say I kept my bum firmly on my seat as I watched the Scoreboard End explode when R Palmer delivered a late equaliser. There were definitely some Rags looking for blood.

Seats in the Streford End in 1980?
It had seats at the rear, even in the early 1960s.

I never knew that. Today has been a learning experience..
