The Manchester derby stirs up a lot of emotions and bad feeling between fans of sky blue and red. For many there is a total hatred when the name of the other club is brought up; sometimes through good reason, sometimes for no reason at all. You could ask some City fans’ why they hate United so much and they wouldn’t have an actual reason why. They just hate them!
I am a huge City fan and I do hate United! Sometimes I try not to hate them so much because I have some friends who are Reds and I try not to let United bother me too much. But I actually now spend little time with any United fans, nearly all the people I spend time with are City fans or rugby league fans who don’t like footy!
I’m not arsed that they win trophies, I don’t get angry or upset or feel like City have lost the European Cup Final when United win it (a lot of City fans feel like this)! I’m not arsed that they have a bigger fan base or stadium, or that the all-time results are United W51, City W40 with 48 draws! I can almost accept all of them and think; fuck it! But the reasons why I hate United are:
-They have the ridiculousness to sing that all City fans come from Stockport, like Stockport is near China or summet. Most City fans come from South Trafford, Tameside and of course Manchester anyway! United are the ones who sell shirts in their millions in Japan and places like that and when you see the pre-match build up to games and they interview fans outside the ground United’s fans are always from down South, are Irish or Scandinavian! WHAT A JOKE! They are the biggest club in the world yet 40% of the city they play in support the team in sky blue!!
-They are the media’s darlings - the media portrays them and their fans like United are the only club in Manchester and even England! City got to the Cup Winners Cup Final and won it in 1970 and it is the only European Final an English club has been in that hasn’t been on tele! Do you think the media would have done that to United!? The media never pick up on the things that United get away, like what Rafa was on about in his moan a while ago, the media even defend United at times!
-The way they hate the England football team because they want to be different to everyone else and are too sad and bitter to support players from Liverpool and City who play for England so say they don’t support them and buy Portugal, Argentina and any other tops but England’s and sing “that boy Ronaldo makes England look shite!†I purposely make an effort to support England more than I may have in the past because of this horrible Rag tendency they have! And I love how they hate it that Rooney tries as hard, if not harder, for England than he does for United - they can’t fuckin stand it!
-The downright arrogance of the bastards! They cannot admit when another player from another team is good! I’ve heard them day things like “Shearer is shit!†“Henry is shit!†“Gerrard is overrated!†you can’t credit how biased someone can be until you meet a horrible Rag!
-Their arrogance again - I’ve had Rags tell me that United-City is not a derby for them anymore and “City are an insignificance!†because their rivalry with Liverpool is bigger than their rivalry with us! But their rivalry with Liverpool is mainly a media rivalry built up in the last 20 years because they are the 2 most successful teams in England, and United hate Liverpool because they are jealous and bitter of their successl! I often hear; “I fuckin hate Scousers!†then I ask; “have you ever met a Scouser?†and most of the time the answer I get is; “well, erm, eeerrrrrrrrr, fuck off, I just fuckin hate ‘em!â€. Then they come to our ground and sing “I fuckin hate City, I fuckin hate City, I fuckin hate City, I do, I do!†and quite often, when they have lost, you’ll never see a more disappointed Cockney or Irishman! So they do fuckin hate us and we aren't an insignificance afterall!
Now the 2 main reasons for why I hate United:
-When I was about 12 I went to The Swamp to watch a derby match and I got kicked in the head by a United fan who was about 30 years old! Yes I was on the enemy’s turf, yes I was wearing City colours, but I was a kid of 12 years old - WHAT A ****!
-The Munich air disaster was a horrible thing to happen, and it was very sad that a man who made it into City’s all-time top 10 players (Frank Swift) was one of the fatalities back in ‘58! But the way the Rags go on about it you’d think it was the only bad thing to happen to any football club and when you mention anything about it they get on the defensive immediately like they are above you and think that you can’t have an opinion on it because I’m not a United fan and if anyone ever says anything derogatory about it they want to fight them! But they are famous for not respecting minute’s silences and other teams’ tragedies! I’ve heard them sing “always look out for Turks carrying knives†to Leeds fans after 2 Leeds fans were stabbed to death in Turkey; they made a song up about Mark Vivien Foe after he died; I’ve seen “96 WAS NOT ENOUGH†graffiti’d on a wall aimed towards the Hillsborough disaster; my mate came back from O/T once and said he felt ashamed because the United fans were not upholding a minutes silence and were shouting and some even singing during the minute; and at the CoMS derby a few years ago, we were meant to uphold a minutes silence for the Madrid train bombings but during the silence a group of about 100 United fans were singing “28 years, 28 years, 28 years……†aimed at our trophy drought, and even Rags who weren’t singing it were laughing at it! We actually won that derby 4-1 so it made up for it! :D but they are HYPOCRITES!
