I set off to meet him to hopefully comfort him in his grief as his own family were away, I'd had a couple of beers so our Jess drove me, he got in touch when I was about half way saying he was off to the hospital to see his surviving son and to turn back, not heard a peep from him since, the contact has been via a pm from another bluemooner say fixer was to stay with extended family and would not return for some time, he was to rent his house out.
Heard nothing at all since.
On the face of it I look a fool but I don't care, the lad seemed devastated so I tried to help, I'd rather look a mug that any child or woman be killed or harmed.
I'd do it again in 5 seconds flat.

Trust me Bill, no-one on here thinks you're a fool for your actions that night. If he did play you, the fact that you went to his aid says an awful lot for your moral fibre, and the fact that someone would do that for someone else reinstates my faith in people.
I agree 100%, your the Hero here Bill and not one bit a fool, the world would be a far better place if more people under took such selfless acts like you did.

Weird this. I was at a funeral yesterday and in the main it was a jovial affair. I sat there though and watched the immediate family struggle through the service and thought about Fixer, and how impossibly difficult it would have been to do this for both his wife and daughter. Then this thread appears.

Is it really in peoples mind set that he faked all this? I can't think of why a person would do that, however at the time he made the thread I also couldn't think why after such a life changing tragedy, you would come onto a football forum and tell everyone what had happened....

there were also rumours that he not only faked it but he was also a rag doing it on behalf of red issue to get a laugh....sick twats if true
Fuck me. I went through near-torment about that, as i'm sure those with/without kids did too. I looked at my 2 kids and wondered if I could have coped losing one and their mum at the same time. Infact ask Mrs P, she will tell you I was really quiet after reading that thread, again as i'm sure many were too.
