What has been your lowest point following City?

New years eve 1972 - waking up on Euston station after being to see CITY get a draw at Norwich - problem with trains meant that I had missed the connection back to Manchester and had to sleep on the station - loads of very strange people about (including a pissed up me) - fucking freezing - I never missed an away game in those days - and I can tell you that this poor away form is nothing new - even our good side of the seventies were generally poor - they often played like they had been on the piss in the hotel - which they probably had

But that morning - cold, skint, hangover - made me question the faith

There have been many since - the Stoke game that saw us relegated - but more recently away at Portsmouth and Stoke last year were real bad days out

Ha, sorry mate I was definitely the first one in!

You sure about that? I jumped in the fountains on the bloody SATURDAY night! Wrecked my jeans and my home top, squelched my way back to MLI's house rather broken!
Peaked a bit early...we started celebrating as soon as we got to London!

*Reaches for Gary James' Manchester City - The complete Record*:-

20th March 1993 - City 1-1 United. Leaving the game to hear news of the Warrington bombing.

7th November 1993 - City 2-3 United. Two-nil up at half-time.

22nd Jan 1994 - Liverpool 2-1 City. Me and my Dad sat with the Liverpool fans, City fans ruining a silence for Matt Busby, City leading for most of the game and Rush scored in the last minute from a free-kick taken totally in the wrong position.

18th Jan 1996 - United 2-1 City. FUCK OFF ALAN WILKIE.

5th May 1996 - City 2-2 Liverpool. Relegation under Ball.

7th November 1997 - City 0-1 Huddersfield. I cannot believe people on here are saying Blackburn in the cup was the only time the fans have turned on the players. A couple of hundred outside the ground protested at most games but after this Friday night sham there were thousands.

Also from 97-98 - Stockport away (three down in 30 mins), Birmingham away (Shelia put us 1-0 up after 88 mins but we lost 2-1 after a ludicrous amount of injury time was played), Crewe away, Bury home (remember that bloke who calmly walked on the pitch, tore up his season ticket and calmly walked off again?), Birmingham home (late winner), QPR home (Pollock, you idiot), Stoke away.

Gillingham at Wembley, 89 minutes on the clock.

For me, it is a tie between Carl Asaba ramming Gillingham in front, and Kevin Horlock sweeping in City's 5th at Stoke to the most apathetic cheer ever recorded for a City goal. Both of those moments were of stark realisation.

It has to be the Stoke match nearly 12 years ago. Next Tuesday will be my first visit back there since, so really hoping to banish those nightmares with a good victory to move into the Champions League places. What a change of fortunes that would be.
Other than that, one match that I recall being so depressed about afterwards was the FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury back in '79. At the time I was so excited about seeing Colin Bell back in the team, but not only did we lose badly, it was so sad to see Colin Bell limping round in the sweeper role, a shadow of his former self.
In recent times, my son cried his first tears at a City game with the 3rd goal in injury time at Old Trafford last month. I told him that you have to experience the lows of supporting City to really appreciate the good times when they eventually come.

Christ is it that long since they moved from Victoria Ground?

Just checked and they moved in 1997 - jeepers I am old!

Not the same as that wonderful boxing day outing in, what year was it? We lost 2 -1 i think with Whatshisname Scott scoring for us.

Oh NURSE! I need one of the green pills please!

2 away games stand out for me, wycombe and york in 98/99 season in 2nd division, lost them both and really got to the point when thought we wouldnt get back up , i was working in york at the time and had lots of grief to take, but relegating them at end of season mad up for that lol , looking back they were great days even though we were piss poor but our fans were top notch and made it all worth while, thinking about it puts it in to perspective where we are now and whats happening to us . what happened in our recent past has only made us stronger !!

For a second there I thought my book was the lowest point. Phew!

Far from it, Gary! I've actually got all of your books here at home and have just finished reading Manchester - A Football History. I must congratulate you as it is one of the finest books I've ever read about football.

I think that it is important to read up on the history of the club - to know who we are and where we come from. Having an illustrious history does not automatically equate to having won masses of trophies, even though City have won things in the past.

I find it slightly more hurtful when fans of other clubs accuse us of not having a history of which to speak, rather than how many honours we can put on a pennant.

actually one of my worst days supporting city was one of my proudest. york away in the old 2nd div on a freezing dec day, we got beat 2 1 and we ended up about 13th in the league, our lowest ever position in the history of the club. But my young son was the city mascot for the day so a proud day in all. Because i live in york the monday morning at work wasnt one of my better days. The bad days at city make us a stronger set of fans we have a unique bond with our club no matter how bad it gets we are always there.
