What if Dickov didn’t equalise against Gillingham

I think we’d have won the league the next season.

We would have had Stuart Pearce as manager, Samaras as striker and the Gene Kelly Stand

Doesn’t bear thinking about. We’ve had more important days since but given the perculiar set of circumstances at that time, seeing that ball hit the back of the net has to go down as one of my favourite City memories.
I totally and completely lost my shit for about five minutes. Never experienced anything like it until Aguero (and now Gundo) all those years later. Neither of which would have happened without Dickov.
Interesting, even now I reckon it was our most important game/day since the glory days of the 60s/70s.
Take Sunderland as an example, how long it's taken them to get back up to the Championship.
If we'd failed I seriously doubt we'd have got up in the next 5/6 seasons - we then wouldn't have been on the radar of the Sheikh, and the rest would never have happened.
There's also the debate about the City of Manchester stadium and if we'd have moved in
Just my thoughts
(Edited - just seen @Didsbury Dave post, pretty much the way I feel above)

In the "Upside Down" we lost against Gillingham. Here's a true blue still attending...

I like to imagine an alternate reality where Peter Ridsdale didn’t f*ck Leeds, we stayed in the Premier League and Sheikh Mansour bought us instead.
I wonder what Manny Cussins’s take on that would have been?
