Every time I watch it back I still can't work out how Dickov's goal didn't sail over the bar. He was the very definition of leaning back yet somehow his shot flew into the roof of the net rather than over it.

All us fans behind the goal sucked it into the net.

Imagine if some other undeserving club, such as say ( as if ha ha ha ha) - Manchester City. Could you imagine how classless they would be? City fans are very badly behaved and they’d cause problems wherever they go.

And he’s right. Id rather take our high and lows than the mundane seasons a lot of football fans have.

That’s very true. In all my years watching City there can’t have been more than maybe about 8 seasons where the season just fizzled out with mid table mediocrity.

It’s been a relegation battle, a promotion race or more recently a title challenge virtually all the way.

If you ask City fans who was City’s worse manager, a significant number would automatically probably say Stuart Pearce. Yet his record of two consecutive years of lower mid table finishes actually makes him statistically one of the most successful pre takeover managers since the 80s.

Honestly I think it might taken a while but I’ve got a feeling we’d eventually get to roughly where we are now. We were a sleeping giant and would’ve been ripe for investment. Much like Newcastle were / are.

You have got to remember that every week from the mid 90s to the mid 00s, someone would phone up Piccadilly Radio or GMR and swear blind that "a rich Arab Sheikh" was going to buy city in the coming months (often because they must be close acquaintances of Franny Lee, as he owned a couple of horses) and that Paulo Maldini was nailed on to be the first signing.

I trusted those cranks.

I think we would have got promoted the following year, the club had a sensible chairman who had put the club on a stable footing and one of the best managers in the division. Most of the squad remained the following season and got promoted again.
