Mancini did exactly what he was brought in to do - win things to elevate the profile of the club particularly in Europe , and I suspect that he was never viewed as a long term manager .
Pellegrini is absolutely the right man to progress the club now , in terms of the " holistic " thing and also with an eye to the financial aspects of ffp.
If , and I think it's really unlikely , we do finish out of the top 4 then , as long as the long term plan is still on track , he will be given time because he is trusted strongly by the owners and the board .
Sometimes you have to take a step back before taking strides forward
