What if we just went with Delap, Jesus, and Torres?

No, the price went up when we got rid of Aguero. That's why Kane failed, after all. The Ronaldo flirtation was a sideshow.

Reality is we need to either take a punt on a cheaper target and hope we get lucky like we did with Diaz, or find a world class target with a release clause (no, me neither...), totally change our transfer strategy by spunking some ridiculous sum on someone (not going to happen if we didn't do it for Kane), or make do with what we've got.

So it'll be 1 or 4. But I think it'll be 4, because I reckon the club will consider the risks of getting in someone who might not be good enough on a 4-5 year contract, tying up wages, costing money, taking up a squad place, is greater than the risk of entering the season without a recogised striker.
Fair comment. The 'fact' that we were only offering a two year contract to Ronaldo gave some indication that we may be lining up a bigger deal in the next two windows, hence my comment re Haaland yesterday.
Simple fact is that Haaland will be a four or five horse race, and we're bloody hopeless in such situations.
I'm hoping that we have a similar season to the last, but I'm not at all confident without a proper striker... Certainly not in the CL.
I'd be happy with top 4 and the Carabao Cup this season as matters stand.

Well, it's not "What if" any more! Must say, didn't quite expect us to be in this position at this point.
By the way, didn't want Ronaldo, if he was negotiating to receive a higher salary than anyone else in the dressing room (as I read. What's true? What isn't? Who knows, any more?)

We only need to win games 1-0
And what happens when we go one nil down? Our record at coming from behind is atrocious, it just allows teams to drop deeper & deeper, that’s ok if you’ve got a recognised striker/target man, but we end up tossing aimless balls into the box, see Spurs Leicester & Chelsea as examples

Just to clarify, you think the defence won us the league last season despite us being the top scorers?
I think that is a fair assessment. The defensive solidity mid season is what characterised that challenge. The goals drove the nail home.

We will still be up there as one of the leagues top scorers because we will smash the fodder 5/6 multiple times during the season but against the top 6 we will be lowest scorers head to head. We have nothing that scares them.

I believe we'll do fine this season.

Blue Mooning bed wetters, with their knickers in a twist, don't seem to realise just how good we are.

"We must have a striker, we must have a striker... we haven't bought a striker, we must have a striker, we're doomed."

What a load of old smelly bollocks.

Just give your heads a good wobble, get to the matches or turn the telly on and watch our City play magnificent and entertaining football and thank your lucky stars you are not Burnley or West Brom supporters.

What if....Well, we may win the league again, who knows?

Thing is, Aguero contributed next to nothing last season. Sterling had his worst season since 16/17 and Jesus since 17/18. Even Kevin wasn't at his very best.

Now, if Grealish comes good and Foden flourishes, and if Sterling, Jesus and Kevin return to the level they had before 20/21, then we may do better than expected. Some players may surprise us and score many goals. Or perhaps not, nobody really knows. Living with uncertaintly is part of what it is to be a fan. Keep an open mind and hope for the best. Most importantly, get behind the team.

Was thinking that myself but I couldn't have written it as well as you.

We swapped an old, crocked Aguero for the hottest English player in the League.

We won the League by 12 points, plus the League Cup, lost the FA Cup at the SF stage, and lost our first CL Final…all a few months ago.

We are bringing 3 or 4 top young players through to add to an already world class squad.

We are usually top scorers in the League, and walk away with the GD crown.

Our goalie won the Golden Gloves again last season.

Oh, and Pep is still the coach for 2 more seasons.

It’s time to hand the Fanny wipes out…and we are going to need a bigger box if nothing changes by EOB on Aug 31st!!!

I hope your post is not a load of smelly old bollocks come May. Anyway I admire your optimism.

Only this. The talent we have in our squad is so fucking exciting. So we couldn’t buy a striker the club thought was good value and improve the team. Spoilt brats, stamping feet. Boo fucking hoo. Perhaps one day we might just get behind a player we already have, give that player a chance to turn into something special, someone like Delap or Torres.

I hate to use the comparison and only do so because of age, but Rooney was very much thrown in the deep end and that fat lump did alright.
I’m a big fan of delap but Rooney was ridiculously talented who had unbelievable technique. Delap is a pure finisher who is incredibly raw. Rooney was the exception it would be unfair to think delap could do what he did.

I admire peoples optimism but last season we started completely shit and only started doing well when the toll of playing every 3 days started to effect other teams.

Peps squad management won us the league last season.

Do u think with a normal fixture list that we'll do the same without a striker?

Guess we'll know around Christmas/January time.
