What if we just went with Delap, Jesus, and Torres?

one would be nice but it isn't necessary for all the reasons you mentioned in your post.

Yes
We are criminally poor in front of goal with a pathetic amount of attempts actually on target.
Its cost us a lot of points, Leeds Home last season, Spurs away this just to name a few as we miss so many gilt edges chances.
If we were playing the opposition and they had Jesus, Sterling or Torres up front against us, i would not be too worried about them

I agree with you. That's why I was happy we got Grealish first. Sterling had gone stale (as had Nahrez previously), Foden rescued us for a decent while, Torres is a question mark still (which is ok), Bernardo was better in CM (still hope he stays) and Jesus wasn't played enough out wide. Grealish hopefully just makes everything above better... somehow.

But I still like the idea of a striker in the box that is keeping the CBs busy. And who better than Ronaldo. It's the fact that he frightens the opposition I think is the best factor. The others out wide might just take advantage.

Yes absolutely we do, but I dont think we necessarily need a world beating shirt selling allround galactico 150 Mill forward. (who with our recent history would get injured anyway)

We should have enough creativity to make chances, we just need someone who doesnt go to pieces in the box, with open goals or one on ones (Sterling, Mahrez and - yes I know hes flavour of month since Saturday -Gabby) ..a type Shaun Goater (perhaps with a slightly better touch). Someone who is a bit of a physical presence and at least a little threat in the air would also not go amiss.

We just need someone to put the ball away and nowt much else. (sorry but thats why I never bought into the "Aguero´s game needed to improve" line, it didnt really need to, he just had to do what he did best, half a chance boom...see Palace away last year) Maybe clutching at straws in support of my weak argument here, but maybe the reason Aguero is getting injured so much is to do with the physical strings added to his bow?? (just a thought) Dont get me wrong Agueros all round game did improve under Pep, no doubt about that.

Many people laughed about Ings, but he is a cracking finisher - when fit - and thats what we need in my unqualified opinion.

We certainly dont need a worldie striker to build a team around, which is essentially what Ronaldo would mean.
Which is why Id rather give Delap a go, rather than Ronaldo.
As long as hes in the right place and has confidence hell score shed loads in our team (as would most half decent forwards...look at what journeyman Negredo did with us)

And sorry yes I do think we got slightly lucky with a false 9, coinciding as it did with a mental unsustainable scoring streak from Ilkay.

No

we smashed everyone last season without one except for our games against Chelsea, and even then Pep didn't line up his best 11 that served him so well throughout the season. see champ league final fiasco.

Isn't Torres a centre forward type striker?

Wouldn't it be worth trying to blend him into the system? I don't think hes quite ready yo take the role on full time and intensively yet but.....

The options we have with him, ie picking him for certain games and letting him sit out others is quite phenomenal I think.

If we want to win against the top teams and fend off rivals for the title - Yes.

If we are happy crushing lesser sides only - No.

One of the reasons I posted is because of the praise Torres has been getting recently. We know he's got an eye for goal, and he's been getting praise for playing like a striker, but it's mostly been "Torres is making all the right runs, but City don't play those kind of balls".

Yes Yes & Yes... Against Spurs and Norwich some of our high and low crosses were crying out for a natural striker to put his head into it or stick out a leg and score!

We could have won the game against Spurs if we had a Natural Striker.

We will lose more games like this if we don't get a striker.

So is it a question of adaptation and trying to work him into our system or do you think he is the plan "c" option, with plans "a" being buy in a big name, plan "b" being play without a no.9 and plan "c" being Torres?

Or should that plan "c" be plan "a"?

Bit disappointed this has been merged with a thread about Jesus, Torres and Delap, as that's surely about whether those three are good enough to be our "striker" and this is more about how todays tactics make the concept of "striker" meaningless.

And everyone who said yes to my question, would say no to the original thread question :)

ps, there may be a thread this needs merging with if I've missed it (apologies), but not sure it's this one.

How about we just give Gabby a proper chance, I could see him becoming the prolific striker we’re looking for. It’s certainly a better option that taking a punt on Vlahovic

If we dont end up buying a striker before windows end, would really like to see Delap given a decent shot this season. The kid will be a star for us in the future, but he's certainly big enough to handle himself and give us a decent goals return right now.

He is a way off Prem quality, but sometimes when thrown in the deep end you suddenly learn how to swim.
