What is a good salary?

We have a different ethos, clearly.
I certainly do not value people purely on what they earn.
We can build a better society than one that speaks of people as economic units touting for the dollar.
We can have a fair taxation system and stop widespread avoidance, with will.
The additional revenues can be used to provide proper services, health and social care.
We can expect a decent day's pay for a decent day's work.

You can describe it as rhetoric, or wish good luck on getting a government to implement it. I describe it as a goal, a vision, and an achievable mindset.
There are just too many people in the Country ever to make real changes down at the individual level. If there was a redistribution of wealth very quickly things would soon start to revert back, some would make money others would lose it. Human nature

As a self employed person then I assume your subject to market forces, your as good as your last job, you get paid what somebody thinks your worth and there is no Union behind you to artificially inflate your income by threatening to withdraw your labour on your behalf.
I’m the best at what I do. Doesn’t mean I have to be a ****, though.

If we’re talking about net salary I’d say 40k a year is more than liveable on that.

Reading through this thread with some on 65 - 80k per year, that’s just wow money to me, I would be seriously comfortable getting those numbers.

Depends where you live though doesn't it. You could be getting that and living in a studio flat in London, or spending several hours a day commuting.

I get what your saying mate but I can only speak for myself, you can actually receive a good salary but live above your means, the situation in London is just bonkers whatever salary you’re on.

The hike of the state pension next April taken from this Septembers inflation figures
Means that due to the governments freeze on the tax allowance for 2-3 years we are close to actually paying tax on that pension alone.
Add in anyone with even a small pension pot
And that’s you state pension taxed.
Considering I’ve paid in 43 years of national insurance so far it’s a fucking joke.
This government know what they are doing.

If only your last line was true !

Its a joke that you've paid in 43yrs and yet you will get no more than someone who has only paid in 35yrs. If you put more in, you should get more back out, even if those other 8yrs are at a reduced rate.
