I don't doubt what the op is saying. There are some pretty low-life bastards around, after all.
I've never had any problems when I've just been walking around town or whatever, but at the games themselves it's different because opposing fans are usually in large groups and like to show off to one another. When you're confronted by a fairly large group from the opposition they just act like tough men. Get them on their own and 9 times out of 10 they're decent enough people.
When you're standing with thousands of fellow supporters it's easy let emotions run away with you and start acting a bit of a twat - I'd be lying if I said in my youth I was an angel. But when you look at these things rationally, regardless of who you support, most of us are ordinary working class people who happen to love the game of football. We pay our hard-earned to support our team and we get caught up in the tribal atmosphere of a match and give the opposition a bit of stick.
But in the cold light of day you don't actually hate another human being simply because he supports a different team to you. After the game is over you don't give a flying f**k about another club's supporters - well, I don't, anyway.
If this van driver attacked the op simply because he was wearing his favourite club's colours (a club who are direct rivals to the team this van driver supports), then I would say the aggressor has serious mental issues and should do something about his problem. After all, if he thinks it's good to go around inciting violence because he happens to see a fan from another club he's eventually going to come unstuck - big time.

You've posted it on here, you should be expecting some criticism... Most 30 year olds on here are probably thinking that if they were pissed off enough to get out of thier van and antagonise a 17 year old kid, who then proceeded to plant one on them... they wouldnt get in the van before they kicked the shit out of the 17 year old kid.
If they're mentally retarded enough to stop thier day to confront you, i'd have guessed they were mentally retarded enough to fight back.
