I thought it was just me that got pissed off with the bloody things.de niro said:Traffic lights.
They must cost millions to run and maintain. Not only placed everywhere including the unnecessary, then run 24/7 in remote areas, including industrial parks that close for the week end. Why they can't be on a timer or sensor is beyond me. You sit there like a dick with no other cars in sight, petrol and fumes chugging away.
Crazy.

Go to my ageing parents every Sunday morning at 8.00 am an pass through 5 sets of light that change for no reason, I have even been tempted to go through a couple on red to save time as there is no traffic at all on the road.
We are constantly told to go green yet we sit at the stupid things for minutes on end consuming money and polluting the atmosphere.

HS2 will not be 'brilliant'. In 15yrs or whenever it gets built(if ever) people who are important enought to need 20mins shaved off the B'ham to London journey time will not be getting trains.
They will be working from offices using Skype, Facetime etc
This is clearly something your not very well educated on. The UK rail infrastructure is at, or nearly at full capacity. Train journeys made over the next decade are going up, the population is going up, and the building of HS2, Crossrail, Crossrail2 will all help to ease these problems. Also it will free up vital track space for freight, and reduce lorries on the road.
