Don't make me come over there!!!!!
This is mad. I couldn't sleep last night and one of thoughts in my head was how many City managers let your dad sit on the bench? Big Mal and Billy Mcneil I know, not sure about Bond or Frizzel, or Benson and Book for that matter. Then I see this post. Your dad was a legend btw, I grew up with them 2 on the tele from being a toddler. Top blue who's missed by many.Eddie is my Dad. He absolutely loved that he got to sit on the bench. In fact strictly speaking up until the day he passed away he was banned from Stamford Bridge as Ken Bates gave him a lifelong ban for sitting on the bench at a game there. He used to tell me that he would have loved to have written a book about all the stories from that time, said he would have titled it "6 years on the bench but never got on". Glauber Berti was close to being able to write a similar book.
Thought that was Peter Reid.
I’m sure it was against West Ham and it was Ronnie Boyce I think , I was at the game .Cannot remember the date (1960s) but we were at home (Maine Road) to Spurs. Joe Corrigan cleared the ball from the corner of his penalty area and trotted back to his goal with his back to the play. I think the ball landed in the centre circle where Alan Gilzean (sic) was standing, and he volleyed it into Joe's net - the expression on Joe's face was "where the hell did that come from?" as he retrieved the ball from his net. If I remember correctly Joe went on loan to Shrewsbury soon after that.
Please correct me if my memory has played tricks with any detail.
Remember it well , it was chaos , spent a good few minutes wandering about on the pitch before anyone escorted us off .
I think that was my first away game. A lively one.
Didn’t Andy Morrison get a red for sticking his tongue n collymores gob at Fulham?Might have been a second yellow rather than a straight red. I was there but the view was bloody awful.
I remember the scoreline - just got the team and player wrong - thanks for the correction. It was v West Ham and Ronnie Boyce scored. We lost 5-1 but won the away game 4-0!! It was Jimmy Greaves' debut for West Ham and he scored a couple IIRC.
Having a piss next to Shinawatra in the south stand. Surreal
