Fulham away 1984. A story I've recounted many times. City fan who I won't name stealing the goalkeepers spare gloves from inside the net during the match. Not just that but City were attacking that goal at the time and won a penalty!!
Police and stewards swooped from every direction and arrested him. Unfortunately I was with him!!! We had paid to get in the Fulham end and had decided to walk around the pitch to the City end. Near the net my mate said what he was going to do. I thought fuck that, turned round and walked back towards the stand. I got nicked too. Horseferry Rd magistrates court my mate gets £80 fine for theft, I got £50 fine for Breach of Peace.
Incident made national press. Headline was "6,874 witness theft". Radio 1s Mike Read had my mate as loser of the day!!
Far from funny for me at the time ( 3 days before xmas) but can laugh about it now.
