What Is the Role of Capitalism 50 Years From Now?

To set the stage for discussion, I'd observe that robotics and artificial intelligence are advancing rapidly. More and more jobs currently filled by humans are being displaced.

For example, in the near future, we may well have full autonomous, automated cars, trucks and ships. The need for human drivers, truckers, pilots and crewmen will be greatly diminished if not entirely eliminated.

And the same sort of job displacement among both blue and white collar workers is accelerating.

Fast forward 50 years.

What role then, if any, does capitalism play?

If everything is going to be automated, will there need to be a cull of a few billion of the surplus population?

Heard this shit at school in the 70s, there would be no jobs by 1990 and we would all pay to work as we would be so board. That was a teacher saying that.

Capitalism will be the same as ever: form capital, put to productive economic use, make a profit.
It is the nature of employment that will change.
Will we produce more with less people?
Will leisure time increase?
Will we turn our hands to new ventures?
Will we increase the numbers of people working in social welfare?
I would say YES to all those q’s.
Then, Will unemployment increase? Never has done before as a result of automation or other progress in production methods.

Nah heard it for years the jobs change but people will always be required, they were saying when we were kids "won't need to work" more people are working now and longer than ever just different sorts of jobs.
