What is wrong with our support?

Let's face it.

That cardboard away end they had at Highbury when the North bank was getting replaced made more noise than we do.

Something needs to be done before it is too late. Whether it is safe standing or someone with a megaphone both would improve it.

Fuck me, even Stuart Pearces blue & white army through the speaker system would at least be some noise!

just googled etihad stadium atmosphere and it came up with this.........

Nitrogen (N2) 780,840 ppmv (78.084%)
Oxygen (O2) 209,460 ppmv (20.946%)
Argon (Ar) 9,340 ppmv (0.9340%)
Carbon dioxide (CO2) 394.45 ppmv (0.039445%)
Neon (Ne) 18.18 ppmv (0.001818%)
Helium (He) 5.24 ppmv (0.000524%)
Methane (CH4) 1.79 ppmv (0.000179%)
Krypton (Kr) 1.14 ppmv (0.000114%)
Hydrogen (H2) 0.55 ppmv (0.000055%)
Nitrous oxide (N2O) 0.325 ppmv (0.0000325%)
Carbon monoxide (CO) 0.1 ppmv (0.00001%)
Xenon (Xe) 0.09 ppmv (9×10−6%) (0.000009%)
Ozone (O3) 0.0 to 0.07 ppmv (0 to 7×10−6%)
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) 0.02 ppmv (2×10−6%) (0.000002%)
Iodine (I2) 0.01 ppmv (1×10−6%) (0.000001%)
Ammonia (NH3) trace

Isn't it strange what a small % Hydrogen is, given most of the matter in the Universe is comprised of it?

Most of the methane is created in the area where I sit where talking shit fills the air constantly.

Its not that bad, why does everything have to be an extreme these days ?

Agree, people are acting like there was no noise on Wednesday when it wasn't bad at all! It wasn't fever pitch but it was better than recent atmospheres I've heard at the Theater of Silence, the Emirates Library, Stamford Bridge, and even the mythical Anfield (which too has lost much of its atmosphere).

I don't want to be inflammatory but, I read a book last summer by a fan - forgotten name exactly but something akin to 'more money than god'? anyway, great read and may help explain some of the apparent apathy among some fans.

In essence; Struggling to feel so much passion for a club which no longer feels like 'ours'..........................

David Conn, Guardian journalist.

Yes,thats it thanks. Very thought provoking book - a good read.

Yeah but their mass karaoke version of 'you'll never get a job' before every kick off is brilliant.........

I agree, it wasnt good enough but then not bad for the standard we have shown of late. What is wrong with us! I really thought we would be loud as fook on weds but we wasnt. Im now startin to think that days like Hamburg are over. Im even losing confidence in derby day being loud!

I also think I'm going to be disappointed on derby day. There were a few games at the end of last season that made me think that the Etihad stadium was really becoming home to this club, as the atmosphere was incredible (vs West Brom, vs Chelsea, vs United, and the first half and post final whistle vs QPR). There was even a decent atmosphere against Spurs and Arsenal earlier on in the year, we even stayed at half time for about 5 minutes against the rags and sang our hearts out, not to mention after the match.

City fans as a bunch can be the most loyal and vocal in the country, I've been given compliments about the blues following for years now, even now that we are winning trophies. Unfortunately, this year something has changed in the attitude of most fans that needs to be changed back. We are not invincible, and we need to get behind our team rather than moaning about what is going wrong. On wednesday night we played Real Madrid, a team I watched on TV as a kid and never thought we, Shitty City from Maine Road, would play. It became a reality and the atmosphere just didn't match up to the fixture. I really hope we sort it out before it's too late.

I agree with what you say until the end. Look, the truth in England whether you like it or not is that crowds in this country only come to life when the team inspires them. Its not Germany or Holland or Italy where there is non stop singing from a group of hardcore fans no matter whats happening on the pitch, we usually (and unfortunately) need something to happen on the pitch to get us going.

Exceptions include derbies and big league and cup games. Wednesday was a big cup game yes, but our position before the game wasn't exactly a great one, also, Madrid bagged early on and were battering us for the first 20, that combined with the fact their fans were shite just meant for a weak atmosphere first half.

When we got going it improved, 2nd half it was a great atmosphere, regardless of the fact I was surrounded by Madrid fans in the east stand. Its just the football culture we live in, we as a club have one of the best atmospheres in the league, just not consistently and it wont change overnight.
