I want to move but my wife wants to stay, bit of a predicament.

Perhaps put a number of screws into the paneling in numerous places so they just protrude through to the other side by an 1/8th of an inch.

When the sound of a ball hitting the fence disappears, remove the screws.

Reapply screws as necessary.

To be completely honest, all my DIY projects are very similar to yours, because I usually trust professional companies when it comes to my house.
