Jotl could though that'd be only because when asked a question he giggles and pulls on his penis,

You asked about the possibility of inheriting debt. If all parties concerned come to the agreement voluntarily that X's debt will be inherited by Y then what's wrong with that?

I'll ignore the silly comment about prison sentences.
I agree that is acceptable but the reality of what will happen is that a person will claim individual responsibility to escape debt (this is fair enough) but will not accept individual responsibility when it comes to receiving money someone has earned and thus refuse the money. That's why it's like a prisoner accepting a sentence, very few would be expected to do it willingly, although some might, as some would also accept their relatives' debt.

Why does it bother you that Bob is likely to accept the offer of a box of chocolates and reject the offer of a smack in the face?

Anyway, it's not like a criminal accepting a sentence in the slightest. The criminal has done something which warrants the sentence. The person who rejects having debt forced on him has done nothing to deserve having the debt forced on him. If you are to ask me why I am giving my (hypothetical) son all of my savings (again, hypothetical, unfortunately :'( ) I will say that he deserves to have my savings (if he isn't a hypothetical twat ;) ). Who are you or anyone else to say otherwise?

Come to think of it, does your view of responsibility extend to the question of what right you have to take control of someone else's savings? If I understand correctly, if you're only allowed to possess something which you yourself have directly created then doesn't this leave you (skashion) in a position where you are breaking your own principle by assuming control of something that you did not create?
