What level of security do you have when you go away on holiday?

We're off soon for a few weeks, is it a good idea to get a couple of cameras or something, what do people recommend ?

There's hardly any break-ins where I live but you never know.

We're going to Cuba next week and will stick our cat in the front window as a deterrent.

We do have a couple of cameras but I have notifications turned off and won't be able to do anything from Cuba anyway.

Still got that cat ?

Must be an old bastard by now.

I don't think burglary is considered that much of a crime in the UK now, just get some house insurance and give them the inevitable police number the rozzers give you when you phone up and report it.

He didn't say if it's still alive or not, it's just a window cat.
Our two cats have sadly passed away, but Mrs Prague had them cremated and we have their ashes in boxes. Would it do any good if we put the boxes in the front window?

Try to slope off without making it obvious you're going on holiday.
Set internal lights on a timer to go on and off while you're away.
Enjoy your trip.

This is great advice.

Not to sound a bit scary or anything but there's no such thing as home security. You can lock all your doors and windows but if someone wanted to invade your house then they're going to be able to do it. Think how easy it is for you to get in if you've lost the keys, just smash a window or something. There's no way to stop someone entering your property.

What home security is for, is deterrent. If your house has a 6 alarm system with locks and bars and on the window and the house next door left its door open overnight then next door gets robbed instead of you. So the purpose is to make it look like you're difficult to rob. Lights on, television, etc.

I spend alot of my time at my others house.

Got a doorbell cam. One in the kitchen facing those prop doors and one in living room for those patio doors.

Don’t get many break ins round here anyway, despite langley’s past rep. It’s mainly for insurance purposes and, incase I ever saw some feral fucker who had actually tried it.

Locks - multiple/good ones
Camera - internal
Alarm - set and wired to 24 x 7 security centre
Security Lights - all round house
Internal Lights - set to go on and off

We check in on phone/laptop every day to make sure all is good.

Live somewhere everyone knows everyone - get to know your neighbours if it's not.

Cameras/lights/security/alarm - do have something, I don't subscribe to an all singing all dancing proprietary job which costs thousands, I use Ring because I can and understand whats needed to make it work - there'll be 'security professionals' howling about its weaknesses but I feel its good enough value because the entire house exterior and gardens are covered and I have door and motion sensors throughout, and in the end my property isn't particularly a target (no f*cking audi or bmw on the drive).

Invest in some automatic curtain closers, some automatic light switches, some self watering flowers in vases, some sensitive cameras with 24 hour notifications, arrange for a neighbour to change the cars around regularly on the drive, cancel all deliveries, cancel your window cleaner, notify the emergency services. Amazon do a lovely range of bear traps, reasonably priced as well may I say, topped off with some lengths of razor wire well hidden in the gutters. All that remains is to set up a flare gun up to a trip wire around your house/premises and enjoy your hollybobs.
