Elvis was proclaimed the 'king of rock and roll' purely because of his good looks and skin colour. He was a good singer, but not a great singer. To me, the real kings of rock and roll were people like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, the Big Bopper, but they were the wrong colour, they wrote great stuff and wasn't it Chuck Berry who invented the popular 12 bar rif? Elvis never wrote a song in his life, his voice was massively inferior to that of Roy Orbison for instance (who could sing both an octave higher and an octave lower than the 'king'!) Like I say, he was good, but tremendously over-rated.
